im going to be upgrading my core i3 6100 to an i5 but im on a budget. is the i5 6400 worth it? i read it is only 2.7 in terms of clock speed and boosts up 3.3. will it be good for 1080p gaming? i will also be upgrading to a gtx 1060 if my money is enough but if it is not, maybe i will be going for a rx 470 4gb. but the main question is the i5 6400 worth it? or will i have to bump up to the 6500? will there be a difference in terms of FPS? is it that big of a difference?

Personally, if you could bump it up to the i5 6500, I'd reckon that'd be the better choice. But the i5 6400 is still a solid pick.

Quad core i5s are great. You should see a boost in CPU-intensive games and higher minimum framerates and more consistent frametimes.
