I'm new to the forums, so firstly let me say hi to you all.

I'm from the UK and I need a new laptop for music production/mixing as my current model Lenovo G50-30 GO80 (spec attached) is let down by the processor as it's only a 2.16GHz Intel Pentium N3530. So as this needs replacing I started looking at high end laptops and stumbled across gaming laptops and soon discovered how little you get for your money due to space and size restrictions. Portability was a massive thing for me at first, but I soon realised the money I would spend on a gaming laptop that wouldn't run Arma 3 the way which I would like, I could purchase a Desktop gaming rig and probably a better laptop for my mobile needs.

After a lot of research I've came up with a shortlist of components and I also realise this is a very hit and miss game to run at absolute maximum settings or ultra as many triple A titles refer to it as. I want to achieve the industry standard of 60fps in 4K @ 21:9 (LG 38") with maximum draw/view distance 12,000/25,000/40,000 (Conflicting figures I've discovered?) .

  • UK and budget £3000'ish but sub £5000
  • Arma 3 Ultra settings and maximum everything else in game
  • i7 6K series, 6700K? other older generations maybe? Overclocked
  • 32/64GB DDR4 ram @ 4200MHz?
  • SLI GTX 1080's (TI's?) GDDR5X Overlclocked any manufacturer?
  • Suitable Motherboard X99?
  • Storage SSD Operating system and Arma 3
  • Suitable Power supply
  • 7.1 Sound card
  • Network Adapter card
  • Water cooling tower
  • No monitor or peripherals needed

I plan to leave this post open and come back to it to add, change or amend components on members recommendations. I know this is a lengthy post but i'm just solely looking on a rig that can handle the behemoth Bohemia game. Thanks in advance and take care.

Karl.

Run Arma 3? Good luck.

Edit: All seriousness, though. lower draw distance and you should do better at 2160@60.

you don't need high speed ram at all... like it will only give you a 1-2fps boost. and more over be better to get a 2k panel 144hz since you are playing a shooter and will want high frames for that.

Surely there is a combination of components out there that can handle this game at ultra/maximum everything @ 1080p/2K/4K 21:9 (2560x1080) @ 60fps even if money wasn't an issue?

that computer I just posted can handle 2k-4k. Though trust me on saying you would want a high refresh rate monitor because it will max out any 60hz monitor and than some. to which point it is really pointless to even have that gpu. ie you are basically wasting frames if you stuck with a 60hz monitor

60hz = max fps = 60fps

144hz = max fps = 144fps

so on and so on

heheheheh.... nope.

Arma 3 although while an awesome game, has horrendous optimization. I run it at high settings with my build at 30-40 FPS.

I hope you have good internet connections or host your own servers

i7 6700k and a gtx 1080 will keep you good at 4k 60fps, but it will be tough and idk about max draw distances

a 6700k and 1080 will not play it at 4k 60FPS in multiplayer. SP, maybe.

@Bloodclaat

Don't listen to that guy that has a Titan (Maxwell) in his build.  A GTX 1070 will keep up with it at half the cost (+/- 10%).

Fast RAM could very well have an impact in ARMA 3, it could greatly increase frame rate stability.
