Buying an older PC for parts. Worth it?

So I've been chatting with my Coworker about buying his old PC for spare parts. It's nothing great or even that good really. But I was wondering if I should even grab it for the price. I offered him 45 bucks for it POSSIBLY 50.

It's clearly just another OEM family desktop. Is 45 bucks for this PC an okay deal on either end? Also, could something like this (Granted I put in another 4 gigs of RAM and some more hard drives) function properly as a NAS? Nothing too hefty. Maybe just a storage box for some of my larger files and some media? Tips? Any hints would be super coolio.

I'd honestly go lower.  Got a PC with an i5 750, full sized atx motherboard, and 4GB of RAM for $40 canadian.

Okay cool. I offered him 45, only because he is a Coworker and he threw me another PC for free just for the screws and Sata cables ETC ETC. This was pretty recent. So I feel 45 is worth it for the two boxes he would have given me so far. Am I wrong? Or am I just being a push over?

EDIT: Plus he gave my the Keys for the OS of the first one and now this one as well. I don't feel like I'm being robbed. OR am I wrong? lol

You're not really wrong, but a CPU that old with only 2 cores really isn't worth that much anymore.  Could be I just got a really good deal.  Do what you want man, it's your money in the end.

10/100 ethernet, nope... you would most likely end up spending more on this fixing it up, than to just go with a modern dual core cpu, cheap mobo etc.

Why would I be worried about a bottleneck on a home network for just personal media or storage? Not exactly running a media group here.

Well for one thing you didn't mention how many people or devices would be connecting. Another would be slow transfer speeds.
