1070?

My friend is getting a GTX 1070 most likely and he wants to know what brand to get and I said the EVGA SC especially cause it's on sale for 420. Is it a good choice? And will his  i5-4460 bottleneck it (I think it will, but I don't know by how much)

I have the EVGA SC and have no complaints, but I haven't really tried to overclock it yet. No need.

"Bottleneck" is not a dirty word. Just means that when he upgrades processors, he won't have to upgrade his graphics card to match. That said, I think a Haswell i5 can handle a 1070 without issue.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

EVGA with the ACX 3.0 coolers are a good option. Best cooler imo for current gen.

It will play fine. There is always a bottleneck somewhere. You might not get max performance out of GPU, but as long as all is fine and fast enough he is good to go.

Yeah, EVGA's got great customer support. The i5 will, but not by much.

Although say he plays a CPU intensive game IE Battlefield 1 (In theory don't know if he will, or a game of equivelent or greater cpu intensity) will he be able to play 1080p max? Around 40-60 fps? OR will his cpu be a problem in those types of games?

EVGA cards look bad IMO but otherwise they are a good card, I5 4460 will bottleneck but that dosent mean it will be bad :)

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

Yes it will bottleneck some titles at 1080p. That's an objective fact. Even the overclocked 6600K will bottleneck a 1070 by some % compared to a 6700K. But it's still a great choice.

Well, the 750ti consumes a lot less power. It should work, since even with the 1070 inside it it shouldn't go above ~350W under load, but I'd open up the PC and take a look at it for the Wattage just in case.

YEa I am tying to get him to do it but he doesn't know a lot about pcs so....
