Hello fellow patrons of the LTT forum! I have my new(ish) build and I want to upgrade the graphics card, and I don't really know which is better, just getting a new 980ti and putting it in SLI with my current 980ti, or sell my current one and get a 1070. My current system specs are here in PCPP and there you will find any pertinent info regarding my current build (monitor, processor and such)

4K - GTX 980TI SLI

Futureproofing and basically same performance - GTX 1070

A reference 1070 roughly performs as well or slightly better as a reference 980 Ti, or a Fury X. There's no reason to sidegrade unless you're aiming for a 2160p SLI setup, and even then there's no point.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

980ti SLI would have a better performance despite only having 6GB VRAM instead of the 8gigs og the 1070 (8gigs only really needed for graphics heavy 4k games) . The 1070 would be more futureproof though.

Still I would recommend getting another 980ti.

If you have the budget, get another gtx 980ti and put it in sli with current one. By going with gtx 1070 you won't gain much as it is roughly on par with gtx 980ti or more aptly the titan x maxwell. So it's better to do sli to gain performance.

You can use 8gb of Vram at 1080p sometimes. 1440p you will have it happen even more often. Save the money OP. Don't buy a second one.

More heat, SLI support being somewhat of a hit and miss, and increased power draw? Things to consider. A 1070 would be a better choice if you don't want to deal with the things I listed. As a 980 Ti SLI user, I'm happy at the moment with my setup.

How does BF1 perform on your computer?

Doesn't SLI need support though?

If it does, I'd much rather choose a 1070.

Yeah, not really looking for 4K, I'm mostly needing better FPS, for some reason I can't get 60fps stable and such, like, overwatch I have to put into all low, which is a huge disappointment.

Hmmm, I play Overwatch with my GTX 1070 and have found I can play at 50-70FPS at 4K at Ultra settings... You should be getting the same...

I think you might have to update your Nvidia Drivers as you should be most definitely fine playing modern games at ultra settings at 1440p...

Wait wait, what..... >:(

Literally rn the problem I'm having is getting 60 (regularly dropping to 35 and staying there for like 30 seconds, then jumping to 45) and the audio crackles when the FPS drops, this is bc of an internal problem with my card or with a bottleneck in the system?

Given that though, 980Ti SLI will easily outperform a single 1070 in SLI supported games, and worst case be about the same in games that don't.

Make sure the card is actually running at full speed. Overwatch is hilariously easy to run.

What? No. It's an overclocking utility. It shows clock rates, temps, and usage graphs.

SLI 980tis

More powerful in most games, and 980ti is still slightly faster by itself in some games.

Use evga provision x hardware monitor tool, or similar tool is found in MSI afterburner, see if your GPU usage is low. Overwatch is not a demanding game at all and a gtx 980ti should eat it as breakfast easily.

wait what? you want to compare SLI to a single 1070? the 1070 is basically the same as a single 980 Ti, buying a 1070 would be a sidegrade not an upgrade and if you had a seller for the 980 Ti and could get two 1070s for around the same you'd have initially spent on the second 980 Ti (as in with the extra cash from your sold 980 Ti paying for the one card) then go for the 1070 SLI setup or a single 1080
