bsod at stock

i have just got an i5 2550k and msi mpower motherboard and it is bluescreening before it gets into windows at stock and it is also shutting off in the bios. Ive tried both sticks of ram separately and it still won't boot.

did u try resetting the bios  ?

to default, yes. i've also tried the ram at xmp and setting the core voltage manually.

well i couldn't say much ...  sorry but did u try safe mode ? also can u post a pic of bsod error ?

yes tried safe mode that didn't work. i can see the error code because its only on the screen for 2 frames then its gone

i know but its not on the screen long enough to see. its literally a flash of blue.

hum .... did u install any new hardware ? what were the temps do u have a speaker installed in the system ?

i didn't install anything new apart from the cpu and motherboard. and i don't have any speakers but i do have headphones.

You need to reinstall windows

Going from amd chipset to intel on the same windows install is not going happen sorry.

You could try to put your hdd back in the old system
Boot up
Go into device manager
Uninstall and disable all devices
Shut down
Put the hdd back in the new system and see if it works


Im fairly skeptical this will work

i filmed it on my camera soi can see the code its says

A prolblem has been detected and windows has been shut down to pr...to your computer

 

check for viruses on your computer (lol). remove any newly installed hard drive. check your hard drive is configured and terminated. run chkdsk /f to check hard drive for corruption, and then restart your computer

You could try to put your hdd back in the old system

Boot up

Put the hdd back in the new system and see if it works

i think i'm going to have to sort this out tommrrow because its 1am and i've got work at 6.30. i don't wan to do a fresh install really because my licence is oem so i think it only works once

Branded or not branded oem? You can use OEM on new mobo if it isn't branded (HP,Dell etc). You may have to call Microsoft to pass activation. Just don't input your code while reinstalling.

No i'm running win 7 and xp in a dul boot setup. My windows 7 is on the ssd and windows xp is on my hdd.

can you boot into a live cd like ubuntu or linux mint? try that first. if not chek the boot to boot direcly from the ssd and if not plug the win xp hdd out then try this!

Its seems even less stable now . it blue screens if i boot off any cd and it can't even be in the bios for more than 2 mins. My mate has a 3570k and a gigabyte board which i could test the cpu and motherboard with but i won't see him until sunday cos i work saturdays.

Since your stop code isn't 124, this isn't hardware related at least. (I bloody hate 124..it's such a vague error code) You might have to reformat, but the good news is that activation over phone is painless if you have to. Listen to the robot lady and follow the prompts.

i would try removing the xp hardrive ... as Google says this bsod is caused by xp .... but im not sure

i'm pretty sure the first time it was the motherboard as it was black screening in the bois

 

the second time it was strange, it was fine in the bois but wouldn't install windows. i had to use ashampoo to destroy the data on the disc then format it. i'm not sure why but when i just formatted it there was still 300MB of space unaccounted for and they must have be protected or hidden files. it is working ok now though
