http://pcpartpicker.com/list/jnCYXH         this would be a good build for around that much. You can use this as a starting point and change things as needed.

Just a few key rules you should always remember on building a computer (so you don't make the same mistake I made or probably many others):

1. Never skimp on a power supply. Don't get a cheap ass Logisys lookin ass 10 dollar PSU because it'll let you get something like a GTX 1080, get something proper. Power supplies are difficult to shop for so I highly recommend getting the forums here to help you pick out one after you decide on the rest of your components. Just make sure to set aside about 100 dollars JUST for the PSU, especially with your budget.

2. Make sure your setup includes at least a boot SSD.

3. Don't buy seagate, get a WD Blue or Black when it comes to mechanical drives.

4. Don't buy an AMD CPU right now.

5. There is little difference between AMD and Nvidia when it comes to graphics cards, just decide based on your needs. For ex if you're looking for a system with a Freesync/Gsync monitor (which I do recommend if you are upgrading your monitor) then an RX 480 will make the most sense since the freesync monitor will not have a premium attached.

6. If you don't plan on overclocking you probably don't need an expensive cooler.

Let me guess... based on backblaze?

Really, if you don't know what you're talking about and just quote 1 stupid article, just... don't give advice. The backblaze piece is a load of crap.

WD and Seagate RMA rates are comparable.

Little difference between AMD and NVIDIA? Really? Seriously?

The 1070 outperforms pretty much every AMD GPU on the market. That's a pretty big difference considering the 1070 is by no means Nvidias best card.

Nvidia outperforms  AMD at nearly every pricepoint ( granted, when you get to the low-mid pricepoints nvidia sucks but irrelevant for this thread. )

Fury x crushes the 1070 in DX12/Vulkan and keeps up very well in DX11 titles. Yes I'd say you can't go wrong with either company.

The FuryX and 1070 perform different in different games. From the games I play and the stuff I do, the 1070 outperforms the furyX. You could say they are even but the 1070 wins alot of benchmarks, and , i don't keep up to date with AMD, but afaik the FuryX is prettty much AMD's best card.

Sorry, but it's not even debatable, at any price point above $150 or so, Nvidia wins.

Lol this entirely is based on needs. But no you're absolutely wrong.

What about a person who wants to upgrade peripherals but doesn't want to spend a price premium on gsync? What if you want better performance in future titles? What if you need a gpu with better computation? There are lots of reasons to purchase an AMD card at almost any price point, the only stranglehold nvidia has is the extreme high end with the 1080.

Not saying someone shouldn't consider a Nvidia GPU but these blanket statements from obvious fanboys is annoying.

Your cllinging to this " better at dx12 " statement.

Do you know, first of all, the FuryX is more expensive, and second, older? AMD have had time to develop better complatability, Pascal is quite new and will get better with newer drivers over time, so the " future titles " statement is irrelevant.

And for standard high-end users, benchmarks from 1070 beat both the maxwell titan and the furyX convincingly.

AMD cards historically stand the test of time better when it comes to performance. It happens every generation where nvidia cards will outperform then lose their edge in a year or two.

And it's not clinging to DX12, it's a fact. Here's a little food for thought for you bud, do you know which graphics company has their chips in every single new/refresh gen console coming out? It sure isn't nvidia, it's AMD. The console market is by and far the largest gaming market share, PC gaming means nothing to these companies. And to get the most out of the AMD GPUs you better believe that every single one that develops for the console will be using Async compute to get the best possible performance on their platform.

And as we all know nvidia barely benefits/doesn't benefit from async compute.

Are you implying that cards just " drastically lose performance " as they age? No, they lose their " edge " because Nvidia release new cards that become more and more powerful every 1-2 years, rather then AMD who just release slightly better garbage then before.

And ofcourse consoles do - they are cheap. As I said, in pretty much every market other then the £100 range, nvidia is superior. That's not subject to opinion, the benchmark just shows nvidia is better.

And, if you want to talk about graphics companies, I believe it's AMD that uses intel CPU's to benchmark their stuff, because they are that garbage of a company they can't make a processor that even comes near an i7.
