turn iMac into PC monitor?

BenoitWW

Hi Guys,

i've got an old iMac (2006) lying around in our garage doing nothing, screen works but GPU is dead.

Would it be possible to buy a raspberry pi and use the iMac screen as a monitor for the pi?

Cheers

Ben

In theory, you can buy a vga inverter board from eBay. I tried it with an old 2009 iMac I had and unfortunately the board did not work so I gave up.

The olympia mac repair guy here explains how to do it.

Not worth it. The converter is ugly and rather expensive compared that you can buy used LCDs at same price. If you want DIY it, sure.
