Dual Channel RAM Question

Alright, so I've always been confused by this and have heard different answers from various people.

 

If you buy a dual channel motherboard with 4 dim slots and want to populate them all can you buy a quad kit or do you have to buy 2 dual kits?

Whichever you want.

The motherboard will decide in what kind of mode they will run, which will be two times dual channel likely (I think only X99 supports quad channel)

And just to clarify, if you have a dual kit and add another later on for expansion, you'd be fine?

Both will work the same, just the two separate kits will not have been validated together.

Won't matter 99.999% of the time though.

Just try to get the same kit, with the same speeds and everything, that reduces the chance of issues.
