Downsampled 1440p on a 1080p Monitor vs Actual 1440p

I just built a pretty expensive PC and now I'm all out of money. I don't have a monitor yet. Ideally, I would like to buy a 2560x1440 monitor, but that will probably leave me with so little money I won't be able to eat anything but cup ramen for the next two hundred years. I could buy a 1920x1080 monitor, though, and use OGSSAA. I actually downsampled 2560x1440 on my parent's TV (which is 1080p) when I went over to their house earlier today (with my rig) and played some World of Warcraft (since I don't have a display at my house), and it looked great. I have a GTX 1070. Not the best thing in the world, I know, but it can handle 1440p gaming pretty well. What do you guys think I should do? Get a good/decent 1920x1080 monitor or starve myself and buy a 2560x1440 one?

Look for a used 1440p monitor. I got my PB278Q for $165. My shitty (not actually, it's just a 60Hz IPS tho) 1080p was like 120

I looked through your posts, if you bought a 1070, you won't be maxing 1440p. So if you want maxxed 1080p or some settings turned down 1440p that'll help your decision.

@Cereal5 Love my PB278Q too. Bought 1, and fell in love, and now I've ordered my 2nd.

Just what I needed, another monitor to stare at with my mouth open, and drooling slightly.

Just get what you can afford. 1080p 144 Hz monitors are cheap now and the 1070 is a good high fps GPU.

I already checked out the PB278Q too, but ain't no way I can spend 40000 yen right now (plus shipping to Japan), haha. >~< And yeah, I know it wouldn't be maxed out, so if I did get a 1440p monitor I would just play some games below native res. I guess imma have to go for the 1080p. \\^o^//

Just live off some Sukiya Chicken Teriyaki bowls. I lived in Japan for a few years, lol.

I would honestly kill for another Sukiya chicken teriyaki bowl, and some level 5 CoCo's chicken cutlet curry.

Hehehe, I can live with that. I can't exactly afford premium dinners every other night as it stands anyway :P

Yee, you had a Japanese name so I wondered if you had some connection with Japan xD

Really I would have figured they were seen as what I saw them as, fast food. I see it that way because probably I'm American. I treated those like that, Coco's was more of a sit down restaurant, and Sukiya I treated like McDonalds. I haven't lived in Japan since 2011. I lived there from 09 to 2011. I've been back 3 times since 2011, and I have another trip planned for next summer.

The first thing I do is always, always eat Sukiya and Coco's every time. Then I find some nice small restaurants and enjoy it. I try to plan my trips around Drift Matsuri at Ebisu, because I end up buying some cheap car to destroy there and do some touge with and see some stuff I didn't see the last time I went, or forgot.

I lived in Saitama in Fussa-shi near Yokota AB.

My name originated from a Tom Cruise movie "The Last Samurai" and my love of Japanese culture fueled it. Then Katsumoto was always in use somewhere, so once I realized Katsu as a surname was IIRC Victorious I picked a 2nd part that worked with the victorious meaning behind the surname.  My user name as a surname should mean Victorious Man, but if it doesn't then oh well.  That's how I ended up with Katsunaka, and plus it's different enough that it works on most places I go online.
