What is Dynamic range compression setting?

In Wargame: Red Dragon, what does this setting mean? What does changing it change in terms of audio, do I want it low or high for the best sound? A quick google on this setting brought me to quick answers and the only threads about it, people talked about it with understanding but never said what it actually does.

Leave it at default...?

I don't see a reason to change it unless you want everything to sound the same volume.

its basically the distance between the highest peaks and lowest valleys of the sound. some people like em closer so they can both hear quiet sounds and not get defend by a random explosion. haha

so 100% means they're as far apart as they can be (real life) 0% everything should sound essentially the same level.:)
