FTW is better. however, if you are in the united states, I would advise you to buy from jet.com and use the promo code shop10, because it gives you 10% off, up to 50$. with that discount, you can buy a Zotac GTX 1080 for 550 USD and free shipping

It's theoretically a better performing product.

It's not though. Cooling is pretty much the same, power delivery does nothing for performance on the GTX1000 series, and all GPUs will overclock an average of 2000-2100MHz.

Having a higher factory overclock means nothing about the performance you will get, and paying more for one is a bad decision unless you're one of those people too afraid to move a slider manually.

The only real benefit is RGB lighting.

It also comes with Dual BIOS. Whether or not the FTW version is going to perform better out of the box versus the SC version is somewhat up in the air as the GPUs will hit different maximum clocks. The best guess we can make is based on specs, and the user may not want to overclock at all. And in addition, the cheaper card may not necessarily boost any higher than what EVGA is advertising, nor will it be able to necessarily hit those speeds if someone does it "manually."

99.999% of GTX1080s will hit 2000-2100MHz.

The extra $30 is not worth it for a factory overclock if they are capable of moving a slider to the right.

I didn't say the card was worth the cost - that's subjective, but if you're looking at something that is technically better, the FTW version fits that criteria versus the SC version. I don't think the FTW is worth the money.

Pretty sure when someone asks what GPU is "better" they mean a better purchase, not better performance only.

"Better" is a vague term to use. Whether or not they mean better value or better raw performance is not really defined with that kind of question.

What is definable as a better purchase is largely subjective. Is the RGB lighting worth it to you? Maybe not, but someone else may think it is and purchase it for that reason, even if it's $30 more.
