Hi guys! My friend needs some pc uprgade. He wants the cost under 1000$ if possible. He has a gtx 850, with a core i3 something with a shitty mobo. He would like to replace his mobo, grapics card and his processor if possible. He wants it to be cheap as possible because the price in Korea is SUPER BOOSTED. it's boosted af that they add around 100$ to 300$ more to the original price. He would like a GTX 980, maybe 980 ti and a core i5 or i7, with a decent mobo that has wifi. Is this possible? I thought of a zotac gtx 980 link(And yes, it's a korean internet shopping mall), a core i5 6600K link, and I'm not sure about the mobo. It can be 500$ but I would like to suggest him a cool looking case like the deepcool genome, which costs goddamn 400 bux in Korea. Did I make good choices? Please suggest a mobo and cool looking case. Thanks!

 

EDIT: He needs an ssd too.... he's running on hard drive xD(His hard drive can do with some improvements... it's a 1 tb 5200 rpm hdd)

Don't get a 980, go with a 1060 6GB instead. Cheaper and more performance.

 

A 6600K and a Z170 that fits his price will do nicely.

Are you sure it's a "GTX 850"? All of the 800 series graphics cards are mobile graphics and aren't going to be upgradeable. Do you mean a 950 or 750?

 

Also, what socket motherboard is he using? "shitty motherboard" isn't very helpful, as there are many different types of shitty motherboards. While this isn't a big deal, we need to know what socket the motherboard is using before recommending a processor. You said you want a Skylake processor, but we wouldn't want you to try to put a Skylake processor in something like a LGA 1150 motherboard or something like that, as it wouldn't work. What type of i3 is it? Unless you're planning on replacing the board, too, in which case, what form factor board is it?

 

I wouldn't recommend a GTX 980 unless it's on sale or you're buying it used. I'd get a 6 GB GTX 1060. Very similar performance and greater VRAM.

Oh yea, we're trying to just replace the whole thing except the Ram. Maybe we can replace the RAM too. Also, it's a 780, not 850. My bad.

Ok, so updated plan. MSI Gtx 1060 twinfrozer, costs are similiar. link. Mobo is z170 link, and a i5-6600K. How does this sound?

Sounds good. You'll also need to pick a CPU cooler for your 6600K, as Skylake's unlocked CPUs do not come with one. I'm assuming you're planning on overclocking if you're getting a Z170 motherboard. If not, you can cut costs and get a cheaper H170, B150, or H110 motherboard.
