I have a MSI GTX 1070 gaming x overclock ed to +175 on the core clock and +450 on the memory clock and also a i7 6700k overclocked to 4.5 GHz. I also have a 2560x1080 monitor. Everyone says I should be able to max every single setting in gta 5 and most other games at this resolution, but with every single setting maxed on gta 5 I average around 30-65 fps and I feel like I should be getting more performance. Is this all the performance I'm going to get?

Overclock might not be stable

check GPU resource uses

Also GTAV on max max everything is pretty hard to run, why don't ya just set it to like High-Ultra

that's nearing 1440p

Also just check this thread, on the absolute max settings GTAV is simply very hard to run
https://pcpartpicker.com/forums/topic/170625-gtx-1070-gta-v-not-perfect-performance

although I think I played through it on a 1440p monitor with a 7850 lol

My oc is stable.

what do you mean by gpu resource? When gaming my gpu is always close to or at 100%

And I really think with both my CPU and gpu oc'ed I really should be able to play this game at max.

Ultra sure, max max, maybe not, You could also try some of the graphical mods

Look at Gears 4, using what is it, the Maximum screen space reflections drops a 1080's performance by like 50%

just find a good mix of settings

That's the easy way out. I really want to be able to play this game maxed, thats why I payed $650 CAD for it...

Not always how it works, besides the mods take it even further beyond

Drop the settings to low and see if your FPS shoots up

Yeah, I think one of the worst settings was the grass detail setting. If you turn just the grass down to medium, you should get a lot of fps back (I doubt you'll notice the difference anyway).

I would try messing with the settings and seeing which ones affect fps more.

Sorry to say this but if you want everything set to absolute maximum on GTA 5 then a 1070 simply will not cut it irrespective how much you paid. Maybe a 1080 you should have considered then or maybe get yourself a second 1070 but I'm not so sure on the scaling when it comes to GTA 5

Do some troubleshooting first.

First, turn down grass from ultra to high.

Second use msaa x4 max!!! MSAA is very taxing on the system in gta V (not as much as mwo but still...)

If you don't get over 60 fps like this then lower your settings to the minimum without vsync and see the framerates you are getting. Also run some benchmarks and compare it to other isers. Also, uninstall all drivers and let windows automatically install the base drivers and see if performance increases. I had a similar problem when I got my 980 ti and it was a certain driver version that slashed performance in half. When nvidia updated the drivers, I could install those again. That might be the issue.

Main rig: Shockwave - MSI Z170 Gaming 7 MOBO, i7-6700k, 16GB DDR4 3000 MHz RAM, KFA2 GTX 980ti HOF, Corsair RM1000 PSU, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD, WD 7200RPM 3TB, Corsair Air 540 White, ASUS P278Q 1440p 144Hz display.

Laptop: Lenovo Y510p, i7-4700HQ, 12 GB (8+4) 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, GT755 2GB SLI graphis card, 1366x768 display.
