Need a New Mid-Lower End GPU

I actually have two PCs, my main rig that is in my specs that I bring to University with me and a second cheaper rig that I keep at home for when I visit. It's mostly a collection of spare parts that I had laying around. Here is the partlist:

I was using a GTX 760 in it but that quite literally just died. It was artifacting earlier today and when I just tried to play a game, the screen went black after a few minutes of it running the game and even a reboot didn't fix it. Anyways, I was looking at getting a RX 460 for it. Any specific models that anyone recommends or perhaps even another option?

RX 460 is probably the best current option for a low-end gaming GPU, but you could also look at the upcoming 1050 if you can wait.

I'd go with either a 750 Ti, 960, or RX 460 depending on the performance you're looking for.

If you want a rd 480 get an asus strix better than most build quality. Rgb if your into that kinda thing.

I can't recommend 1060 no sli support if you ever wanted to throw another one in there later.

RX460 is a pretty good choice. But if you can stretch your budget a little bit, look at also RX470.
If you can wait, wait for the gtx 1050 and see what it can offer.

I don't really want to spend a lot since I'm in college. Can't really wait either since I'm during break at the moment. I ended up ordering a RX460 Nitro with one day shipping from Amazon so I get it Monday.

Hopefully Sunday though their estimate says Monday. Until it arrives I'm stuck running my 1440p monitor at 30Hz since the iGPU is so crappy. It is so stuttery it hurts me.

The Pentium G3258 will be a bottleneck in any games that are CPU intensive, I wouldn't stretch your budget for a mid range card until you upgrade the CPU first. The G3258 overclocked will give you good single threaded performance but in games that use multiple threads, you will see huge bottlenecks.

 

It depends on the type of games you play but many modern and upcoming titles will require more than a dual core CPU.

Also, @DeadEyePsycho have you considered getting a small cuboid case?

Personally I would look for a second hand 960 or 970 you maybe able to get a good deal.

I'm not getting a new case, I'm trying to keep my spending to a minimum even though the past couple of days have been expensive. This is mainly a spare parts build that makes it so I don't have to carry my main rig back and forth between college and home.
