Hello there,

I have a LM215WF3 that i salvaged from a old tablet(hp slate 21.5) as a android device it was useless but i did notice the lovely screen it had.

The screen is in perfect condition so no reason why i can't put a nice controller board and connect my pc or laptop to it.

I also need to do this as i am on a budget for my new pc so not buying a monitor will help nicely.

Just not sure which controller board is compatible with this screen.

It is also touchscreen so im pretty scared that many things are incompatible.

I don't care about touch screen functionality. Just using it as a monitor for my laptop atm and then a pc monitor.

My laptop only has a hdmi port so preferably a controller board with hdmi.

More information can be provided.

Please help me in my quest for a budget system!

If you want to know what type of screen you have to take it apart and send us a picture of the connector.

Sent the picture. Not sure if it sent as im new to the LTT community.

Upload speed is horrendous aswell.

BTW i know what screen it is, i just can't find any specific controller board so i was hoping someone more intelligent than me on the topic of such can help.

Can you move the camera so i can see the connector going into the monitor.

Detached the connector already.

But it should be fine.

Thanks for hanging in here, it's really late and im so tired, but so happy at the same time.

I tried so many obscure methods to turn this into a working monitor but i failed each time.

That is a lvds connector. Here is a adapter to vga http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Controller-Board-RTD2025-for-DIY-Monitor-VGA-to-LVDS-Driver-LCD-Panel-/201541536183?hash=item2eeccfc9b7:g:P68AAOSwoudW5orO

I have done this to a laptop screen and it works well.

Im sorry but i don't have a vga port on anything i own, i only have a hdmi port on my laptop.

Also reading the description the controlller supports 1400*900 not 1080 by 1920 which the screen runs at.

Those boards run of 5v. Sometimes you have to solder wires on. The screen either has a led or ccfl backlight.

It probably has a ccfl and you need a inverter(can be found on ebay or with ccfl lighting kits and plug the blub in.

Wait so i need a soldering iron now? and a ccfl inverter?

WTF are those?

Im not experienced in this sort of stuff.

All i know is that it is a generic ips screen.

Also the second link for the controller board is not converting to my currency.

Can't find it in my ebay either.

*Cannot be shipped to the UK.

These arent exactly plug and play. If you want a screen, just buy a cheap used monitor.

I know but, that's the point im looking for expertise and guidance on this. I don't want to buy a cheap monitor as i have one already.

I just need a controller board for it! Just wondering if there is any method to salvage this monitor.

Look on ebay for hdmi to lvds adapter. Order one that looks good. You also probably need a lvds cable that fits the screen. Look for one of the same shape as the one in your monitor.

CCFL is a fluorescent tube (like the long white tube lights you find in a department store, just much smaller). These run on multiple thousands of volts, which is what the inverter does. It makes 5V with a higher amperage into several thousand volts with a much lower amperage.

If it's LED then it just runs off of 5V directly.

Since it's IPS it most likely has an LED backlight, since IPS is a lot newer and is more likely to also have the newer LED backlighting. Either way you need a controller, some of them have power bricks included and some don't. Just look for whatever one you want (that has the features and everything you need), and you should be able to just plug it into the LVDS connector on the monitor.

Is this okay?

It provides a lvds cable.

Still not sure what to power it though.

So literally anything thats generic and fits most of the what i need will work? Im still not sure about these power bricks either what determines their spec. I understand voltage and amps but not how the size is standardized and what is actually needed.

The connector is probaly wrong. There are many tyepes of connectors.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25cm-FIX-30P-S8-30-Pins-Hole-Forward-LVDS-Cable-For-LCD-Panel-Display-Replace-/291435337233?hash=item43dae65611:g:jP0AAOSwBLlVML1E

You need a wall psu to power it. I think it needs a standard 12v wall psu.

It comes with the inverter.

Do you want a closeup on the connector? It has 2 metal tab like things on the side. So both might not fit the bill.

Best option seems like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Board-TV-Motherboard-LCD-Controller-VGA-HDMI-AV-TV-USB-Interface-Green-/322107535139?hash=item4aff1aef23:g:3UUAAOSwZjJVAHtz . Need to buy a LVDS cable 30 pin along with a 12 v brick then.

Pretty sure its LED as CFL is way too old. ALso the delivery time is much earlier so i can experiment now rather than later!

You can tell cfl vs lcd if it has 2 thick wires going to it.
