780 classified Vs MSI HD 7990 help

Finchy

Hey all so I'm going to get a new card and I was about to go get the 780 Classified card instore for 729$. I then saw a sale for the MSI Radeon HD 7990 from 1049 and with the price match thing at the store I'm going to the price for it would be $674.99. I have no clue about the 7990 and how it stacks up to the 780 classified so if anyone can aid me in this decision I would be grateful.

780 is single GPU, so if you don't want to bother with crossfire then 780 is the way to go. If you don't mind crossfire then the 7990 would be a better choice as it destroys the 780.

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 @ Stock, CPU cooler: Dark Rock 4, Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX, RAM: 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 @ 3000Mhz, GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 ACX 3.0, SSD: Crucial P1 1TB M.2 + 2x120GB SSDs, Case: Corsair 110R, PSU: Corsair TX650M, OS: Windows 10 64-bit.

If you are willing to spend that sort of money on a card, wait until december as by that point we will see the specs/performance of the 780Ti that is to be released mid november. Seeing as it will be the new top card from the green team it should drop the price of titan/780 which will increase what you can get for your money, not to mention the R9 290x will be available soon so if you can just wait a little while. VERY exciting time to be in the market for a new graphics card :D

Edit: Giggity

This^. Just wait, 780ti + G-sync vs R9 290x + Mantle. I haven't been this excited for GPUs in years.

Just found a cheaper price and so I would be paying 573.75$ for the 7990. I was debating waiting for the new cards, but I'll probably upgrade around the end of next year to get ready for Star Citizen and sell this card I buy to a friend who always buys the components I replace. I think I'll go for it as what you get with the 7990 and its problems have mostly been fixed from my quick google search. The price is just to good to pass up on I think.

That's not comparable, its like saying 690 vs 780.

I'm not comparing...his question was between a 7990 and 780, but if he wants the 7990 get it or wait for the 290x....

If you're considering the Radeon HD 7990 you'd be better off getting two Radeon R9 280X's and Crossfire them since the 7990 is essentially two 7970's on a single card. The 280X is a refreshed 7970 GHz Ed. which will perform much better in Crossfire than a 7990 will. Personally, I'd do what everyone else is suggesting and wait for the R9 290X.

Yea was looking at that they have the ASUS Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II and I could get 2 of those for the same price as that 7990, but after digging around and watching tons of vids online I think I might just wait for that R9 290X.

780ti is also coming out, I would expect it to replace the 780 at its price point, so it is possible the 780 (non ti) will get a price drop. If you can wait until both cards (780 ti and R9 290x) are out I would recommend it. I for one cannot wait to see the benchmarks for the 290x and the 780 ti.

Comparing these two cards is not even comparable. The 780 is a single gpu card solution

and the 7990 is a dual gpu card solution......like the 690. Although, I believe in most games and benches, the 7990 has more than the 690 does.

I just replaced my two 670 FTW+ 4GB cards for a single 780 Classified and I'm quite happy with the performance I'm getting.

I'm never going back to dual GPU's again. Everything is so much smoother on a single card and the fact it works in every game is just awesome.

The 780 Classified is a beast and out of the box it's damn near the performance of the Titan. Once you flash the BIOS is kicks the crap out of the Titan!

780 Classified + 130% Power Target = Epicness!

Screw the 7990, I vote for the Classified!

I really want to get a 780 hydro copper, though right now I'm at least gonna wait until the 780 ti and R9 290x come out, hopefully EVGA will put out a hydro version of the 780 ti (I love the look of the water block).

That's what I have and it's really nice. The lighting clashes with everything but other than that it's really nice.

Well just an update, went in to get some other parts and caved and bought the 7990 lol. You can see why I did and see some pics of it here https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/61413-first-time-build-the-beast/?p=923765

Congrats, hopefully you don't have low GPU usage and stuttering issues like other people have had with dual GPU cards.

I work for the government(NSA).

Just a smart guess. Not many pple would splash $900 on a video card lol. U also mentioned you had 670 FTW sli..Timothy Lack?

Yeah I did, just sold them on eBay. And no lol, that's not my first name. Nice guess!
