What device do I need to play MKV files on my TV.

So I have some MKV files that my PS3 won't play. I've tried converting them and for a time it did work but not it's becoming a problem. I can't play these files at all and I've tried multiple converters. So I've decided to just take the PS3 out of the equation and getting some streaming device or something that can play the files through USB. Any good ones or something I need to know before I buy one?

You can continue to use the PS3 if you're up to use Plex. MKVs through Plex with a Chromecast also works.

get a Raspberry PI and make it a media PC thing. thats cheap and easy. there are probably other ways but i cant think of any good ones right now

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

How? PS3 Media Server streams all my .mkv files to my PS3 just fine.

It did seem like ti was working and then boom it just stopped so I kind of wasn't sure... Could you possibly work me through it?

Theres one option in the software which lets you choose how much bandwidth PS3MS is allowed to use. The 2njd box in the image below is what you want to change. I usually have it set to 0 and haven't had any problems.
