Laptop that won't need an upgrade for at least 4 years

So, I have been doing research for a new laptop that I hope to buy. I will use the laptop mainly for gaming and 3D animation, but I will also use if for photo and video editing along with school work. I mainly want this laptop to last for at least 4 years until I need to upgrade it.

I can do anything under $1700.

And how is this so cheap (relatively for the spec)

I have what is essentially the Haswell/Maxwell version of this. Light in the sense that it is 2.5kg/5.5 pounds in mass, but the power brick is a little on the larger side, and I would say the total weight is about 3kg-ish. The price of this machine is actually much lower than other laptops from the known brands like MSI, Asus, Gigabyte and may perform better. It is cheap because Sager themselves do not design the laptop itself, it is actually a barebones laptop from Taiwanese laptop manufacturer Clevo, and there are many Clevo laptops sold around the world but under different names. Typically Clevo laptops are cheaper, but sometimes more expensive in regions like Europe for some reason.

You made the same comment in your own post. Refer to that for comparisons to the GS63VR.

are you joking?

You can get laptops that are way bigger in every single way and 2.65kg is not heavy at all, you can get laptops that are 5kg with no problem. If you want under those 2.65kg, then you will also get a laptop that has heat problems. That laptop is really as light as it gets for a 1070 laptop, that can cool the CPU and GPU.

A quality backpack can often make everything feel lighter.

Really depends on how much you value a 1060 vs a 1070. You could get a really nice, loaded 1060 model, or get a skimpy 1070 model. It all depends how much those extras like SSDs or more RAM are to you.

For 1700 you can get a nicely specced 1070.

Pardon me,I didn't mean to say it like the 1070 would be skimpy, I just meant you could go crazy and get a larger SSD, Gsync, and RAM. You could get a nice one, I just meant you could get a really loaded 1060 model by comparison.

Or you could be like me and order a model with 850s and literally the next day have 960s announced. Also while I am waiting for my Sager to get here, I learned about Nvidia Fast Sync. For just about every game a 1070 is op in 1080p, and if they go without a MUX switch, it might be better to get better battery life. Depending on reviews I might return my Sager if I don't like it, but I am also waiting for reviews for the Alienware. With optimus and that battery I believe it can actually get the 8 hours of light use.

Edit: Whoops, I accidentally  was thinking this was the alienware thread I had opened in another tab.
