Eluktronics Laptops? (cheap GTX 1060 laptop)

Greetings.

I was recently trying to find the cheapest possible laptop with a GTX 1060 in it (omitting barebones laptops) and I came across this- a laptop with a GTX 1060, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, A Core i7 6700HQ, a 128GB SSD, and a 15" 1080p IPS display.

https://www.amazon.com/Eluktronics-P650RP6-Premium-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B01LYOTO9B/

However, it's a bit of an ugly duckling, and I've never heard of the brand. The only things I've found are Eluktronics' own promotional videos, a few awkward reviews, and an RMA complain, all based on last-generation laptops.

Does anyone here have experience with Eluktronics laptops? Has anyone even encountered them before?

Regards,
Aereldor.

"bit of an ugly duckling" is definitely an understatement lol

The well known brands out there have problems with gaming laptops as it is, so if that's something to go by then I am not sure I can recommend this.

That said on that Amazon listing they have replied to a question that a potential customer has asked and the reply doesn't look half arsed. So maybe, this company could be a hidden gem? Who knows.

Best way is to pull the trigger and if you don't like it, return it within 30 days as Amazon is amazing with giving stuff back usually :)

That laptop looks like a Clevo model. 1200 with a 1060 is about the absolute bare minimum.

That's a Clevo. You are correct. That price is also amazing.

Eluktronics are retailers. They don't make the laptop. It's a Clevo. And frankly that price is pretty fucking amazing. I'd say grab it right the fuck up. It's one of the best 15in "slim ish" laptops that can actually handle Pascal.

What you are looking at is basically this: https://lpc-digital.com/product/sager-np8152-clevo-p650rp6/?ex=1

Though I would say look at the specs, because you can't configure anything, and anything you dont need or want to upgrade you'll have to factor into the price. Still a great price.

Pick that laptop up, it is a clevo and it is kinda slim and it can handle Pascal unlike other laptops, not gonna say names, because I think we all know what laptops I am talking about. Also that price, got damn. I am into 14inch laptops, but I would pick that up if I could get it at that price.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

Ikr I was almost skeptical that it was real for that price. I might have to start telling people you can get a $1200 1060. Although I have not idea how good a "Eluktro SSD" is. Still that price is unbelievable.  The only thing I don't know is how good the support/ warranty is. For such an expensive purchase I would also consider that, but there is nothing else even offered at that price.

Thank you for your replies- you sure do know your stuff. I don't know if I can quite afford this yet, and was looking into pricing for research purposes.

What I was most skeptical of was the quality control on these. The Dell Inspiron 7559 was highly praised, but the way Dell hit that attractive price and value was by essentially refraining from pulling defective laptops off the belt, with about one in every ten laptops being sent back for being defective. Certain reviewers often received defective replacements, with one particularly memorable reviewer mentioning that he/she had to RMA the laptop thrice and it still wound up defective.

If I shell out $1200 for a laptop, I'd have to sell my PC, and can't afford to have my only computer die. I'm ready to invest in longevity, although that does not mean I don't have my eye out for a sweet deal. If this laptop has reasonable quality control and support, then I'm all for it.

You have a PC? Are you going to be going home? Are you sitting right now typing on your PC? If they answer is yes. Why are you selling it? High end laptops are really meant for people who NEED to be mobile. Like work. I fly 2-3 times a week, and I can't very well lug my PC around now can I? I tried. ITX. Fuck that. The time you save setting that shit up everytime you move can be put into much better use cases. If you need to move from 1 end of the server to the other, you have a PC? fucked.

Quality control is up to 2 people. Clevo in manufacturing, and Eluktronics for third party testing before selling. Clevo is fine. Eluktronics 0 clue.

Honestly, if you don't absolutely NEED to be mobile, a desktop will serve you better.

edit: price went back up to where it should be. missed out on the deal. in that case buy from LPC.

I do need to be mobile in about six months, and probably stay so for the next five years. A desktop has served me fine for a year and will probably continue to do so for half a year. Perhaps more if I can make things work with a more powerful phone or a tablet.

If your PC is in your sig, then that laptop will smoke it in every way. A 1060 is twice about 80% faster than the 960 in most cases, if not doubling the framerate outright. You wouldn't really be sacrificing anything aside from the inability to upgrade the parts... which isn't an issue anyway with as powerful as mobile devices have become. :P

I'd be sacrificing $600, and that is if I can sell my PC and monitor for $600.

I'd say you need around 1400 dollars to get a comfortable 1060 laptop.

https://lpc-digital.com/product/sager-np8152-special-clevo-p650rp6/

Could last you 5 years. Honestly depends on how you take care of your laptop. Keep the fans high, temps low. Clean your laptop every month. 5 years no problem. I would do this, code a light monitoring program on all your fav online sites and watch for prices. Amazon fucks up all the time like when you posted the link. Was like 1100 for a 1300 dollar machine. Aftermarket upgrades bring it to around 1300. So you'll save some money. Always watch out for sales.

Don't buy overheating junk from other manufacterers because heat kills longevity and for 5 years you definitely want low temps. 80C+ is quite hot for sustained use, I would say something like sub 80s is where I would comfortably run my machines at.

Also depends on your use case, if you're not stressing your machine alot, reaching 85C on occasion is fine. If it's sustained, yea you need much lower temps.

Also you can take another route of buying the best budget/second hand/ebay budget notebook for 750 ish dollars and upgrade 2.5 years in with another one.

Not really. It's amazon routinely fucking up their pricing. Happens all the time, gets fixed pretty quickly, but if you buy it when its incorrectly priced Amazon will honor it.

For that price, I've also been eyeing a refurbished 2015 13" 128GB MacBook Pro. Will I be able to upgrade the storage with any old M.2 SSD?

To be fair, that's what I thought when I saw the Dell 7559 at first. I was like. O_O!!! and snagged dat thing up FAST. Then again, I have Amazon Prime too. >.> So I get the super deal versions emailed to me when they come out. When have MBP's EVER been value-oriented. Off the top of my head I can think of only a few reasons to get one. They NEVER offer better "value".

Usability - Best trackpad in the house, makes using them without a mouse a dream

UNIX - For programmers. SSH + Terminal direct is nice too. Linux is also an option so this is for very well paid programmer who like MBP

Video Editors - FCP

Looks - This is my usage. Different clientele have different perceptions and sometimes it's good to use a MBP for a certain perception of yourself.

so you are going to school eh? I always like to have a backup laptop, just incase my main laptops fucks up. So if I buy a new laptop today, then my t420s becomes my backup laptop and then my backup laptop becomes a pure media center. I have had a laptop HDD die on me the day before the exam, I nearly didn't have time to get a new hard drive and it took 4 hours to get the hdd cloned over to the ssd I got. If you can wait 6months or so, then do it and save more money up, hell there might even be a nice sale on black Friday.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...
