GTX 980ti HOF temps inquiry

deeledee

hey guys, I've owned the gpu for close to a year now, figured i wanna try to OC it, so i ran unigine vally benchmark (ran it on single monitor ultra 1080p aax8) on stock settings, it hit 83c at 99% load, is it normal ? i felt skeptical after the temps hit so high on stock settings, i live in a tropical country, but my room temps are pretty normal. do i even proceed to OC it ?

below are my specs

i7-6700k (stock)
H100i gtx
asus maximus VIII hero
gtx 980ti HOF
corsair dominator platinum 16GB
EVGA SuperNOVA P2 850W

H440 (side panels closed)

fan config - aio exhaust on top, 1 rear exhaust, 3 front intake (stock fan)

What do you consider "pretty normal" temperatures? Since you live in a tropical country, 25-30c might be normal for you, whereas where I live 18-20c is considered normal for room temperature.

Hypothetically speaking, if your room temperature is 25c and mine would be 18, your card would only run at 76c here, which is well within limits.

Also, you could always set a more aggressive fan profile. Does the cars still hit 83c at 50% fan speed or higher? Is it much more audible? If not, you should have enough headroom for some overclocking. Upping the voltage might require a water block if you really want to boost it big time.

I'll assume since you left it at stock, you didn't touch the fan profile, which is generally set to focus on noise over temp which you can just adjust in several utilities.

I have the same card. Those temps as normal with stock fan curve. Customize it and you can lower temps somewhat.
