Hello there fellas!

Currently im using  a Samsung 850 Pro (512GB), its totally fine but im having a severe case of the "buy new stuff" itch, so im looking at M.2 SSDs (the SPEEDS!) ;)

I have a MSI Z170 gaming pro motherboard that does have a M.2 slot but im not sure how to go about this, i've heard even tho they have the M.2 in the name, the connectors are diffrent from eachother, so im looking for some savvy people who know their stuff on M.2 since i dont really know a whole lot about them

Appreciate the help guys =)

Wait for Samsung's new 960 Pro then use that as your primary boot drive & set aside your current 850 Pro as backup.

Going beyond SATA speeds at the moment offers no real appreciable benefit for loading programs.

Anyway, what you're looking for is the keying: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2#Form_factors_and_keying . If you want to use NVMe, you need to make sure the slot has a key only in the M position.
