Budget upgrade: stay AMD or go Intel

Hey everyone, 

I am needing to upgrade my CPU in PC on a budget. My current build is, a FX6350 liquid cooled by a coolermaster seidon 240m, gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 revision 4, 4x4 sticks of 16gb 1866 g.skill sniper ram, and a xfx 290 watercooled via a g10. I was recently told about the "new" AMD 8350 and 8370s with the wraith coolers, and they seem promising and cheaper than getting a new intel mobo with a CPU. Is there a better and cheaper Intel option I do not know about or am overlooking? Or should I stick with AMD? Thanks for the feedback!

why did you go with watercooling on a low budget build? also wait for the new cpu's to launch

A 8350 normally isn't that faster in games. Id probaby just wait for a new platform.

Because those freaking chips are as hot as the freaking sun.... if you want "silent" gaming on any of those FX chips aio is a god send. MY FX 6300 would be in the high 60s to low 70s when I OC a 4.8ghz on my hyper 212. When i got my H115i at the time I went from that to high 40s to low 50s and that was on the preset on quite mode

couldnt you have bought a intel cpu or nvidia gpu instead with that money?

Well, I really don't want to wait. I recently bought the new Forza ( I know lame excuse) and it isn't running the best. And I figured it is a good time for a CPU.

Definitely not the time at all... wait for zen and kaby to come out THEN when everyone is selling off their chips for the new ones is the best time to get one...

EDIT: Plus the releases are around the corner by that in a few months.

The only real upgrade is a brand new platform.

 

If you're devoted to AMD for no logical reason, you can wait until the new platforms around AMD's new CPU architecture, Zen, but that's due until 2017.

 

If you want to upgrade now, you can move to Haswell (cheaper) or Skylake (more expensive, plus you'll need new RAM).

 

I personally can't see Zen being more powerful than Haswell, so upgrading to anything Intel now isn't a bad idea. I don't understand the "wait for Zen" comments because you'll only get similar or worse performance for maybe a little less money... Assuming Zen's price at launch isn't inflated for being a new platform.

I suspect prices will drop once Zen is out and prices for GPUs is inflated to right now...

Exactly. With AMD's track record I don't see Zen being too gooddly. Can you recommend a good cheap haswell chip and board combo? I need a board that works with quad channel 1866.

Haswell is not really worth going for unless ya aim for i7-4790K... o3o

Hmm if you want to OC then I guess the FX-8370 could do since your board is really high end yet you probably most get a liquid cooler if you plan for over 4.5GHz range, tough in some older games you wont gain much from upgrading to a 8-core so which games ya play?
