Can I use DDR4 3466mhz?

I plan to get a corsair ddr4 64gb 3466mhz ram from Amazon. Considering the price diff from my supposed ram which has 3200mhz is only 30 bux, I intend to get the 3466mhz instead which includes 2 fan kits. My question would I be having problems using this ram which is rated at 3466mhz? The motherboard is an asus x99 e ws which indicates ram freq upto 3200(oc). If I get the 3466mhz ram and run on XMP... would it force to run at 3466 or 3200 as the manual says up to this freq. I hope someone could help me on this... thank you.

Speeds past ~3200 usually have issues on X99, especially in a 64GB kit, I wouldn't personally recommend it.

You can take it higher if you wish, but the highest frequency that ASUS is claiming is 3200. Anything higher than that, and stability is not guaranteed(at least on the motherboard end. The CPU's memory controller is another story).

Thank you for the replies. If I get the 3466mhz, can I run it at 3200mhz on xmp? Am I going to have problems underclocking the ram to 3200mhz instead of its default clock (3466)?

One reason I am getting the 3466 is the price..  it's $510 with 2 ram coolers. So planning to get this and hopefully run it at a lower freq.

If you get 3466MHz RAM you can set it manually to 3200 and it will work just fine.

The default clock will be whatever the motherboard sets it to. 3466 is just the highest the DIMMs officially support. You can most definitely use any frequency lower than 3466.

Thanks guys. One last thing. On corsair's website it says "Designed for intel 100" It wouldn't pose any problems for X99 E WS specially on its XMP modes, am I correct?

I got 4X16gb kits and saved a $300 compared to buying in 64gb kits. Runs in 3200mhz just fine with XMP

Thanks for the info sir. If only could get a good deal of 3200mhz ram den Id go for that. The price diff of 2800mhz to 3466mhz is quite slim so Id probably get the higher rated ram and run it at 3200mhz as per max settings of the x99 e ws mobo.
