Hey guys just finished playing through Half-Life 1, gunna play the other games next... but in what order? do I play Half-Life 2 before HL2-Episode 1 & 2? What about blue shift, deathmatch, lost coast, or opposing force?

Also any fun mods I should play though (for youtube) or add to make the game better in my first time playthrough of 2?

If you make Half-Life radioactive does that mean it has four quarter lives? Just messing. But I haven't played Half-Life since the original release, and I've been wondering (without review or effort) if the game is even worth playing? And why is it still being mentioned for being such an old game?

A la Google

You should play, Half-life 1, (add-ons include, opposing force, blue shift, decay, and the mod remake of half life 1, Black Mesa). Then play, Portal 1 (if you have it). Half life 2, HL2 episode 1, HL2 episode 2, Portal 2, and then maybe play TF2 just for fun.

Meh I would probably do hl, hl2, hl2: episode 1, hl2: episode 2 but I definitely recommend portal, portal 2 and portal stories: mel (it's a well made fan mod) as well

That's how the games are laid out chronologically.

ya all I really did was pull portal out of that since I dont really view it as part of the hl  but blue shift and opposing forces happen at the same time as hl just a different view point I think.

Play it in this order:

Half-Life

Blue Shift

Opposing Force (These three technically run simultaneously, so BS and OF can be switched)

Half-Life 2

Lost Coast (This "episode" is non-canon, and takes place in the middle of HL2's story, but is still fun and short, so play it anyway)

Episode 1

Episode 2

EDIT: Death Match is MP only, so... play that whenever you feel like?

I'd also suggest playing Black Mesa, either instead of Half-Life, or in addition to it, after playing the entire series.

Black Mesa is a HL remake using the Source Engine (HL 2 engine) - though they haven't completed the Xen levels yet, as of the last time I played it. But the Xen levels are the weakest levels anyway.

The soundtrack of Black Mesa is fucking awesome. It's worth a download all on it's own. I seriously have all the songs on my phone and listen to them among my regular music.

I definitely think its worth a good 'ol playthrough. its still got a lot of elements that most modern games still don't have! if you don't feel like buying it you can watch a playthrough on YouTube. Not to advertise or anything, but I did one I think turned out really well, especially the further you get into it! :)

awesome! thanks for the info! I'll play it just like that, and hopefully they'll be done with the later levels of Black Mesa by the time I complete everything. It'll be a great tribute back to the original game after everything's said and done. :) appreciate it man!
