I was planning a build for some one who is new to gaming. Maybe a console player who want to start getting into PC gaming so I planned out this build. I will base other builds off this one, AMD counter parts and such. I wanted the builds to be "flashy" yet cost efficient also capable for later upgrades.

Here is the build

~$1300 is pretty do able for an entry level gaming computer IMO. Also I was wondering if the CPU cooler was good enough? The max turbo on the i5 is 3.8Ghz and new pc gamers might not be ready yet to over clocking so leaving it at stock speeds should hurt gaming so much.

you can't make a build specifically for one type of person because every person has other needs

Maybe someone needs a quieter pc, someone else doesn't needs that much storage

there are a lot of variables

AMD Athlon X4 750k; Gigabyte F2A88XM-DS2; 8Gb Corsair XMS 1600 Mhz; AMD Hd5670 1Gb DDR3; Bequiet E6-600W; W7 Ultimate x64

Why would you go with the i5 k but then coose a crappy cooler, that is no good for overclocking.?

Id say either get a decent cooler and oc it, or get a Xeon 1230 in the first place and save money on cooler and mb.

Whatever this hybrid drive is, I suspect some kind of sshd, dont buy it. Just for the same money get a cost effective 120gb ssd like a 840 evo and go with a seperate actual hdd along with it.

Personal Build Project "Rained-On"

helped building up the CPU Overclocking Database and GPU Overclocking Database, check them out ;)

why are you buying an os,

if gaming is what you want it for go steam os when it comes out,

if its general browsing the web go tiny core

else get mint, ubuntu fedora etc

and with the 140 usd you would save you could get even better hardware

With SteamOS you're still streaming games from your windows machine to the Linux one, Linux games are pretty limited.

Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 Wired Gaming Keyboard  ($121.98 @ Newegg)
Mouse: SteelSeries Sensei Pro MLG Edition Wired Laser Mouse  ($96.87 @ Newegg)

These are ridiculous for a beginner build.  That is over $200 for just a mouse and keyboard.

Try these:

http://www.amazon.com/CM-Storm-QuickFire-Stealth-Mechanical/dp/B00CKJ2HJ6/ref=sr_1_12?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1381949184&sr=1-12&keywords=keyboard

I am not trying to be insulting, I have a $150 keyboard and a $90 mouse, but it really, really isn't needed, especially for a beginner.

Also, try for an AMD GPU so they can get some free games to go with their new PC (I recommend a 7970 as it is a great card and really cheap right now)

its what id build, its cheaper, you get a full on 256gb ssd, a 3terabyte drive a gaming mouse (m65ftw) and a ducky shine keyboard, before anyone calls me an amd fan we know to spend the money on the graphics card PLUS when your new to gaming its nice to actually have something to play without shelling out any more AND the 7950 will beat the 760 (the 760 is effectively a ghz ed anyway), see a problem im all ears

These aren't really 'entry level' budgets. I'm thinking entry level is more like ~$600.

What's your friend's budget? I have better recommendations depending on that.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

yeah entry level gaming for me sounds like a fx 6300 + hd 7850.which is a good match and maxes out bf3 . next step is the lowest i5 ivy/haswell + gtx 660/7870/. and the lowest priced i5 is fine and doesn`t bottleneck a gpu like R9 280X so...
