The ga z170 hd3 motherboard says it supports dual channel but it has 4 ram slots. Is this mean I can use two pairs of dual channel?

 

Also, what are some cheap ddr 4 memory? Both 8 and 16gb

While you can use 2 kits with 2 modules, it's better to use a single 4x8 kit rather than 2 2x8 ones.

You could do two 2xYGB kits, but the best solution is a single 4xYGB kit.

Two slots behave as one channel, while the other two slots behave as another channel. You can get four DIMMs, but they will behave as dual channel memory, regardless of what the advertisement is on the packaging.

So I can just put two dimms of 8gb and it is no problem

X99 supports quad channel memory, otherwise ram speed still doesn't matter much for 99% of tasks
