Some idiot company called Endless Energy wants to build an incinerator in my city. They were already refused once, and now they are reapplying.

You don't need to move. Modern incinerators are really clean nowadays, what with the EU regulations and all.

People are always like "Not in my back yard" but I find that incredibly selfish. If it's not you it'll be someone else and local democracy is what holds back good projects like Hinkley Point, HS2 and... This.

TL,DR: put up or shut up

Theres no need for more incinerators anywhere in the UK, and it isnt the UK that wants to build it but some foreign company.

Lets build one in your backyard instead then if you think its necessary.

If a company wants to spend money to construct an incinerator, surely they have identified a need for incinerators, right?

Nope. Surely said company just wants to make more money. If there was a need for it then they surely wouldnt have already been refused before.

To be honest I'd rather they built one around Leeds/Bingley then relocating towards London xDxD

But nah seriously though, doesn't it kind of defeat the point letting anyone on this forum sign it? Shouldn't it be a community effort to show that people actually care who could be affected by it?
But looks like you're pretty close to your goal anyway.

I think the 'take us with you Scotland' petition reached its goal, but Im still not a part of Sdotland :(

Nothing wrong with an incinerator. With high enough combustion temperatures the exhaust is very clean.  Incinerators are better for the environment, taking all that garbage to the landfill would be far worse.

Even so, I dont think they should be built so close to housing areas.

Also from quoting others comments:

Sometimes even weather gets trapped in the Airevalley, with clouds hanging around like a giant blanket when all around (and above) is clear. This happens because it is a valley, so the logical conclusion is that emissions will also stay in the valley but the only difference is we might not be able to see them. I read an informative post from a man who works at another incinerator. He said that this new incinerator will be using quite dated technology and that whilst it is stated that the emissions will comply with eu regulations, plants like this will regularly breach the allowed amounts due to malfunction etc but they just pay the fines and carry on.

One major problem is just because incinerator technology has progressed to the point of providing cleaner emission, this doesnt in anyway guarantee that a new incinerator will he using the latest technology. As pointed out here, even if it abides ro the EU regulations for emissions, that still doesmt mean its not going to be dumping toxic emissions into a valley, which furthermore are going to get trapped there due to the geography of the place.

This is an interesting conundrum. I see three options here, I'd like to know what you think @Bhav

  1. Take incinerator, force them to use highest technologies and be "watched".
  2. Don't take incinerator, and instead recycle
  3. Don't take incinerator, and don't recycle.

Each has distinct advantages and drawbacks, but the biggest difference between the three is the age old question: Where do we put our refuse?
This conversation also goes along with the food space vs. living space problem (it's essentially exactly the same).

ENCRYPTION IS NOT A CRIME

2.

No incinerator and recycle.

Also the UK already has enough landfills and incinerators to handle non recyclable waste.

And if new incinerarors are needed, why not build them in an industrial zone instead of a residential valley conaining mostly green space?

lol at some of the comments

Property value will get the goodnews being close to an incinerator, no matter how clean it is. Demand dictates property value. Who would want to buy in such an area?

I guess my point is, as a resident of the area, you don't need scientific studies to be opposed to this 9_9

wish you luck

Landfills fill up. That's the problem.

Landfills also can have nasty shit seep into the ground water.  Inceratotrs don't have that issue, maybe some particulate and combustion emissions, but it otherwise actually removes waste instead of burying it for future generations to address.

You might as well pack up and move now. Before house prices fall.

Recently a city golf course was turned into more new houses.

Houses on the golf course now lost $100k+

A homeless foundation bought an old hotel to house the bums.

The communtiy did not want it and understandably, they dont want bums in their neighborhood, so their houses would decrease by $50k.

Another bum foundation bought a warehouse in an industrial park, houses 500+ bums, 2" apart on 2" foam. I doubt anyone cares, but I am sure the crime has increased. Same with the criminals doing weekends, local walmart see's a spike in shoplifting, a few extra cars are stolen in the area.

Homes by the land fill are cheaper, it stinks depends on the wind.

So I feel your pain. But I can only assume with the UK having strict enviromental laws, I doubt it will be very polluting. You guys need jobs for all the Syrians refugee's, so its a good thing, less our way.
