Use the build in my signature as a starting point. I would add an i5 6500 to it or maybe switch to a GTX 1060 depending on your workflow.

I'm pretty sure a lot of video editing software can't even use SLI/CrossFireX. I would just save some money and go for a i7 6800k as it has more cores. Video Editing is based off of multi-core CPU performance.

Video editing...

It's kinda a HUGE section to say your wanna build a PC for....

With MANY variables...

Explain your needs, and goals in regards to video editing, and do you want multiple GPU's for video editing, or other things...

Simplest way for video editing - find a cheap quadcore (from older gens) and have a program that does GPU-assisted encoding (speed boosting)

Not the fastest, but practical enough on a budget of $700 where you'll have leftover to strengthen it further, or enjoy the leftovers.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

for $700 go for one good gpu instead on two lesser performing ones, also i'm not sure what video editing programs use more than 1 gpu.

What's up with the Z170 board and non-K CPU?

Really the only reason to go with Z170 and a non-K CPU other than upgrading in the future to a K-sku CPU is if you plan on doing SLI or I guess overclocking your RAM to maximize the performance of a lower-end CPU, as Z170 boards are the only Skylake boards that can support these features.

I did that for future expansion in case of an upgrade, and z170 boards typically are better built, and include more features.

What feature is included with that $99 board that I can't find with an H170 or B150 board? From checking reviews on individual store pages, that board has an overwhelming number of DOAs and 1 star reviews. I'm sure in most cases this isn't a problem, but it is concerning.

No Need for the motherboard of that sort it does not change performance in speeds of anything and the 1060 is a terrible choice sorry man.

And a good idea,.... IF your actually going to upgrade later...But not a good idea, if your "on the fence" or "Doubtful" you'll ever go and upgrade to a K-Skew CPU.

Like I said I was ages ago....and have not yet. :(

I'm sure we've all been there before.

Besides, you can upgrade to an i7-6700 from an i5-6500 on a non-Z170 board. The i7-6700 is an excellent processor even if you can't overclock it, and should last someone many years.

what you are asking isn't quite possible in my opinion. i mean usually video editing requires a good cpu to do it well and with this budget it would be hard to get a good cpu and gpu i think you would have to compromise on one.
