Any Laptop Recommendation?

Andy Yu

I am going to buy a laptop in the near future because I just got my part time job and I am able to buy myself a decent laptop. Even though, I am pretty good with computer hardware, I am not familiar with laptop's price point and specs in general. I would like to ask people in this forum to help me with it :D

Usage:

Portable laptop with decent CPU that allows me to do decent digital art (Photoshop). Otherwise just basic web browsing and school assignments such as Microsoft Words. Gaming is not necessary because I only game heavily on my PC.

Requirements:

Screen size: 12 inches to maximum 15 inches

Screen resolution: Ideally 1440p or more

Weight: Less than 4 LB

CPU: i7 6500u or more

RAM: 8GB LPDDR3 or more ( better if expandable in the future)

GPU: None

Storage: 250GB SSD

Battery life: Preferably 8 hours or more

Price: Below 2400 CAD and not fan of any brand

Thank you :) Hope you guys have a great day

Hey, would you mind explaining why something like the XPS13/15 is not recommended? They fit his requirements perfectly.

Don't waste your time. It's hot, loud, poorly built and Razer support is utter shit.

Business laptops are built much better than the XPS line. If he doesn't need a dGPU, E7470/E7270 or T460s/X260 are the best laptops.

The problem with the dell  E7470/E7270 are that they have terrible Adobe RGB color only matching around 60% and same could be said about the thinkpads.

Last time I checked, ThinkPads use high-end IPS displays averaging 80% color accuracy.

If that is true (since for some reason I cant find that info) than that is a much better laptop to buy than the dell E7470. However, the new razer blade stealth will be releasing soon and you could wait and see if the version has improved.

Blade Stealth isn't that good - T460S had a great IPS display

Their 4k models claim to have 100% Adobe RGB now I think any logical person will know that that is false advertising so it will most likely include the 94-97% range. Only problems are no dedicated GPU but for photoshop and digital art you will run into other bottlenecks first. Also the 4k models will drain your battery life more but would still render the laptop highly usable for this type of work. If Razer has fixed some of their other build problems such as heat and noise under load than this new version could be a possible option.

My GL502 has 100% color accuracy - that's easy to do.

The GL502 is a great option but only has a 1080p screen and the graphics card is mostly unnecessary especially for just Photoshop.

86*C max for the CPU, 79*C max for the GPU - no throttling.

Only if it's the below 1080p screens. Those TN panels are shit.
