Durable PC Build

I think I'm still going to stick with my processor and GPU, but I think I might go for this G257HU because it has IPS and is still cheap, sacrificing the display quality, as it's only 1440p.

You're never really going to have to replace the 4k display even if it is TN.

4k is more than double the amount of pixels that 1440p gives you, meaning twice the screen space, it's easily worth living with a decent TN display for the advantages it gives you

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I mean, according to a lot of people, 60 hz on 1440p is better than 20hz on 4K.

You don't run AAA games at 4k, but a lot of games will run at 4k 60fps with lower settings, or just lightly demanding games

You run AAA games at 1080p high-ultra with say an RX 480 and get perfect scaling, and you have the 4k desktop experience, in addition to never having to replace the display, because GPUs that can power AAA 4k gaming, right now pretty much solely the Titan XP, will get cheaper overtime

What games do you play the most? Do you play any esports games like dota a ton?

I'll probably be playing Overwatch the most on this, but I might get Steep when it comes out.

an RX 480 can handle overwatch at 4k probably medium settings, otherwise you just drop to 1080p Ultra to hit more than stable 60fps

benchmarks here
http://www.hardwareunboxed.com/amd-radeon-rx-480-benchmark-review-23-games-tested-three-resolutions/

"
For those wondering it averaged 35fps at 4K and 45fps when using the ultra preset. " 35-45fps under Ultra 4K if I'm reading that right

Mostly disabling any Anti-Aliasing is going to help a ton, since you don't need AA really when running at 4k on a pretty sharp display

I'd just rather have IPS 1440p over TN 4K.

This doesn't look bad:

You mean the LG display? Those are always going to be more expensive because they're pretty much garuenteed to function and have warranties and such

Crossover does have cheap 4k displays though IPS is nice, but modern TN is pretty good, especially for the money

lol speaking of which, the discription here has a note, he didn't notice it was a TN panel until later, the hate for older TN is certainly justified, but from my recent experiences modern TN is good enough

Are you doing photoshop work or something?

Not really, I just prefer more vibrant colors. I think I'm still going to stick with the 1440p monitor. However, I'd be nice if I could find a good 1440p IPS 27" or 28" monitor. The one I'm looking at is only 25".

Can you tell me which display here is TN and which is IPS? and they really are that close in real life

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/aoc-u2879vf-28-inch-4k-uhd-freesync-monitor,4575-8.html

"The U2879VF doesn't dominate in any particular area but seems to do everything reasonably well. It has superb color that doesn't require calibration, which is a big plus in our book. FreeSync is a welcome feature though its 40-60Hz range may be an issue for some. Casual gamers will want to take a hard look at this value-priced display. Users needing a proofing monitor might also want to consider it. AOC has brought a good Ultra HD implementation to market at an extremely competitive price."

I'd go for 4k good TN vs 1440p IPS at this point any day of the week, 4k sets you up for life, the point of the AOC one is that it's pretty good for the money

My only concern is that running some games at 1440p won't look as good as just running them on a 1440p monitor instead of a 4K one. Mainly I'm worried about frame rates and how well the 1070 can handle 4K.

1080p Scales perfectly with 4k, meaning you'll be running AAA games at 1080p such as GTAV or The Witcher 3, the RX 470/480 runs all those at high-ultra 1080p, plus you get free-sync, the higher end GPU is somewhat unnecessary for this use case because it's overkill for 1080p 60hz gaming

Lesser games you can actually run at 4k, otherwise the only GPU really capable of high settings 4k is the titan XP, which will change through the months as faster cheaper GPUs come out, such as the AMD Vega GPUs.

Here the older R9 285, runs some esports games at 4k, the 470/480 is easily twice as fast

You have a good selection of parts for a well balanced PC. However, at your price range I don't see any sort of aesthetic harmony. there doesn't appear to be any theme going on. You say you're wanting blue LED's, but you have a red GPU and black/yellow motherboard. if you're going for all the colours of the wind, then thats fine, but there are options out there for you if you're into a more blue PC. You could get the "GA-Z170X-UD3 Ultra" motherboard, and a more colour neutral GPU like the Gigabyte G1 gaming or Asus ROG STRIX and use their RGB to match your colour preferences. Maybe even a FTW card from EVGA, although that may be a tad bit more expensive.

I would change the case, but that's personal opinion.

1. Second option

2. Second option, it's definitely better even though it's more expensive.

3. I would choose second option, good size and resolution for this build.

1.

Avexir Core Series Blue (above) with CRYORIG H5 Universal (all black color scheme w/ LED ram and blue LEDs)

OR

Corsair Vengeance LPX Black with CRYORIG H5 Ultimate (all black color scheme w/ blue LEDs)

2.

Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX PSU (cheaper)

OR

EVGA SuperNova G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX PSU (more expensive... is it better?)

3.

AOC U2879VF 28.0" 60Hz Monitor (4K , but TN)

OR

ASUS PB278Q 27.0" 60Hz Monitor (1440p IPS, slightly expensive)

OR

Acer G257HU smidpx 25.0" 60Hz Monitor (1440p IPS, cheap, but 25")

The choices made on the list above are my personal choices, with the exception of the RAM (I'm 50/50), but I'm not very experienced at picking out parts, so if you think another choice is better than mine, feel free to express your opinion! If you think I should change one of the parts that are not the RAM, PSU, or monitor, please message me (don't want the thread to get clogged up with extra stuff). Thanks in advance for feedback!

I think this is a solid build, if I were you there is two things I would change out.

I would go with the GTX 1070 SC EVGA version. I feel the tech is better and you can get it $40 cheaper then MSI

Also for the monitor go 1440p 144HZ, unless you need a 28 inch screen sacrifice a little size cause you can find a good monitor with a higher refresh for $300.

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

1.Corsair

2. EVGA

3. My personal preference would to to go for the Asus

None of your colours really match up.. If you're going for a blue LEDS, why not get an EVGA 1070 instead?

I get what you're saying, I noticed that too. However, I can't add white to the mix or else it gets even worse. I was thinking about spray painting the 1070 and the little metal parts on the mobo (by taking them off). I couldn't really find any more blue parts that matched my criteria.

1. Second option

2. Second option, it's definitely better even though it's more expensive.

3. I would choose second option, good size and resolution for this build.

What's the difference between the RMx and G2? Just curious. Also, I had a guy on another thread say to go for 4K, even if it's TN. Why 1440p?

Edit: Might not have mentioned it, but I plan on upgrading to SLI in the future.

Why dont you just buy parts that correspond with the colour scheme youre looking for? Like, get a motherboard with aesthetics that you like, instead of having to mod it.

I can't find any parts that are blue. I know there are RGB GPUs, but I've pretty much decided on the MSI one. Also, the only blue mobo also has white, which I don't want to add. :/ Color Scheme Problems.

Are there any 1440p 144Hz monitors you recommend? Also, for the EVGA GPU... I don't know... it's basically the same performance, but I don't like the look, even w/ RGB. Mainly the gray bugs me.

The z9 neo is an amazing case. I have one and it is the greatest thing ever.
