I currently have a FX-4300 and i really want a R9 390 but i know this will bottleneck but idk by how much(if anyone can tell me plz do). Should i return it and save the money for an i7-6700k or just keep it and put up with the bottleneck of the R9 390

Thanks

What AMD cpu is best for this high end gpu???

Technically none.

You could get an FX 8320 but since you have an FX 4300 I'm thinking your motherboard is probably not in the good to decent range like a 970 Gaming or a 990FX board. Which means you could go up to an FX 6300 and call it a day but you're still going to see a good chunk of bottlenecking with a 390.

Just wait and do a worthwhile upgrade at a later time.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

whatever the most highend FX-8xxx is that might atleast be fine with it

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

At the moment intel is the better choice for games. If you can wait, amd will launch their next lineup early next year and it might be better than what intel has to offer.

Every amd cpu that is out currently will bottleneck the 390. Either wait for Zen (which will require a new mobo and ram anyway) or get an i5 or better from intel

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

Why? He'd still have to buy a new board for Zen.

That's if he wants to stick with AMD. I wouldn't advise dropping any money on an FX series octacore at this point. Just save that for Zen or an Intel conversion, it'll be more performance for the money.

Would a i7 3820 be okay with the R9 390?
