Hello all!

I'm from the US, my PC is quite important to me as it's where I spend most of my time(I'm disabled)

I'm a gamer, a digital artist and I want to get into making YouTube videos soon.

I got my PC from CyberPowerPC in 2010 as I'm far too weak to build my own, the HDD has is dying and I figured maybe I'll just buy an SSD and a fresh windows install(suggestions are welcome, I'm thinking Samsung 840 pro)

My specs are an

CPU: i7 930 2.80ghz

GPU: ATi 5850 1GB

RAM: 6GB

PSU: Corsair TX750

Do you guys think it's time for a rig upgrade or will an SSD be enough for awhile?

My PC seems to get 45 Max fps on most current games with medium settings.

I only get some money once a year to spend on this stuff, I don't want to make any bad decisions and upgrade when I don't need to... I'd like it to be worth it. :)

P.S. 3 weeks without my PC is torture! writing this on a Kindle, lol

if not, give us a buget :)

This, definitely get an SSD. On top of that a new GPU should help you out a lot, but would you have money to do an entire new build?

Your CPU is still great.

I advise you to get an SSD now if you want (or dont get it if you dont care about booting times), and instead of buying GPU now, wait few months for Maxwells (should come by 2nd quarter of 2014) which will finally introduce some performance increase.

The year of 2013 was the year of GPU rebadges... nothing new, Graphics Core Next are 2 years old now and Kepler is over 1 year old now.

][ CPU: Phenom II x6 1045t @3,7GHz ][ GPU: GTX 660 2GB ][ Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P ][ RAM: 8GB @1450Mhz CL9 DDR3 ][ PSU: Chieftec 500AB A ][ Case: SilentiumPC Regnum L50 ][ CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo & Arctic MX4 ][

@ciprian97pop @Hans Christian | Teri

I had put some money aside for a PS4(around $6-700) but cancelled it when my HDD died... using some for my PC instead.

When I build a new rig the budget will be around $12-1500, I hope... last year I bought a few things to get ready for a new build that I'll attempt to build myself, lol... Corsair 600T, AX850 PSU, WD 1TB Black and Win 7 Pro.

@Wolfur I have no problem waiting, definitely think it's time for a GPU upgrade though... I was kind of hoping my CPU would last me until DDR4 would be released as well, the current CPU's don't seem like that much of an improvement.

No point in upgrading everything. There are parts that are still very solid like your psu.

@WoodenWorker Thanks guys appreciate it, I may take those recommendations... what are the differences between the Kingston 3k and Samsung Evo?... does the Samsung 840 Pro only make a difference in benchmark scores? :/

Tempted by the 7950... I could probably give my old GPU to my bro(who wants to build a gaming PC)

@NohbdyKnows thanks bud!

So, if you already have an hdd, a case, a psu and an os, this is what I'd recommend

CPU:  Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($279.99 @ Microcenter)
Motherboard:  MSI Z87-G43 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($137.86 @ Newegg)
Storage:  Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($177.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card:  PowerColor Radeon HD 7990 6GB Video Card  ($594.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $1272.79
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
(Generated by PCPartPicker 2013-10-16 14:23 EDT-0400)

You could get the gtx 780 but you won't get the same performance or wait for the 290x :)

@ciprian97pop this was mostly why i didnt do a whole new pc that would need to be built...and saving the most money atm would be beneficial (for other things that he could need :))

and he would need a much better psu (just my 2 cents) and more ram could also be nice

but besides all that, the build you put together on pcpartpicker is very nice  :D

The differences between the ssds you mentioned and other higher tiered modern ssds are pretty much unnoticeable in real life usage. It's mostly in specialized usage cases and benchmarks do the slight differences show up.

Whether you want to be a nice bro or not is up to you. :)

@WoodenMarker thanks man, definitely getting the Kingston. :)

@ciprian97pop is the 4770k a big leap from the 930?... I remember a lot of people being let down by the performance of the new CPU's.

@NohbdyKnows Better than the TX750 or AX850?... I definitely need higher capacity and better RAM.

I want to stay away from dual cards like the 7990, I live around Palm Springs and in the summer it gets up to 130% here... my PC gets so hot that it doesn't work well when the sun is up, lol I think single GPU configurations is my best option.

The 4770k is a decent leap but chances are that you already have enough power. Getting more than you need doesn't do much.

There are few configs that the tx750 or ax850 couldn't run. Your current psu should be fine for anything you throw that's not pretty balls to the wall at it. It's more than enough for any single gpu config.

Are you running out of ram?

@WoodenMarker no idea, just figure more would be better... my photoshop files get pretty big that it slows things down, was hoping an upgrade would help.

Also got some blue screens with a memory error before around 5 times... hasn't done it for weeks and I've used memory check, says my memory was okay but I'd still like to be safe.

Getting a ssd for a scratchdisk should fix the problem of photoshop being slow with large files.

You might want to do a memory test to check your memory.
