mATX Master :D!

After 5 years on the AMD FX platform it was time for an upgrade and since Zen is not ready yet I opted to hop to the blue team for the next one. Some things I kept from my 'old' system, some are new. Below the specs of the new and old

 

Old:

Cooler Master V850 80Plus Gold PSU

Sapphire Radeon R9 280X (waiting for new GPU prices to drop to consider upgrade..)

Cooler Master Nepton 240M AIO

3 Enermax TB Apolish fans (love them :D)

2 Kingston VSSDNow 120GB SSDs 

Seagata Baracuda 1TB HDD

 

New:

Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 3

Gigabyte GA-Z170M-D3H

Intel i7 6700K 

Kingston Hyper X Fury 2133 16GB DDR4

 

Potential future buys:

New GPU once prices drop GTX1060/RX 480

M2 SSD

Only issue since I am having is that windows update doesnt update and keeps searching for updates. (See topic in trouble shooting if you have a suggestion :)..)

 

 

For those wondering about why mATX: I had a Cosmos II previously, try moving that or take it to LAN events! Hernia incoming

I love the Maker 3 case. I wish I had an mATX build as I would buy one. I am thinking of getting a new case and if I do, it would be its bigger brother the Maker 5.

Thanks Nena  Probably not Freesync for me as my LG 29UM57-P does not support it and I only have it 6 months and kinda love it

Yeah just avoid the scam named GTX 1060 3GB, you should get RX 470 4GB, RX 480 or the true 1060 with 6GB! (unless you play at sub 1080p then you will probably be fine with 3GB but keep in mind the 1060 also has less cuda cores than its 6GB relative...)

Nice! I opted for mATX on purpuse cuz my old case was a Cosmos II and that one was a nightmare to move when I moved appt to house and when taking to LAN events

yae the 3GB already tricked me almost when I was looking like oh a cheap one, but on a second look saw it was the 3GB version 6GB 1080 or RX480 it will be  

 

My monitor is 2560x1080, both should be OK I think

i tried to solve that problem by making another PC lol. not the brightest of ideas, or rather it would have been great but now its beyond me what it wants anymore lol so i can see why you went M-ATX, something i wouldent do seeing as i LOVE expansioncards

How dark is the tint on that TG?

Could you post a pic with no lighting in the case? (It's on the fan, guess you have to power it down if it's not much of a hassle for you)

Its quite dark, you can see through it with the PC off (more easy then screwing arround with fans cuz I also have a LED strip which has constant power to it). 

 

You want a pic of it :-) ? 

 

Personally: it could have been a tint lighter to view the componants also when the PC is off better

say how does it stack up to the enthoo evolve mATX case?
i'm also thinking about moving to matx in my next build so i want to know a bit more about this sub category of not as small as a matx can get case, but still not atx mid tower case category....or nasaamcgcbsnatc category for short.

Hi Skywaver, I have been looking at the Evolve too, but I guess it will come down to mostly on looks? Mesh vs clean look front? Because both are very spec decent cases in this segment, like also the 450D, guess it comes downs mostly to looks?

 

As for mATX, building is a bit more challeging perhaps because some spaces are smaller, but I enjoyed it a lot and am very happy with the end result and footprint of the case on my desk !!

I know right :D! I saw it too, it was just on the ground and the morning sun was coming through the window and gave such a nice effect had to take it

As you see it is kinda dark, but you do see some inside like the picture shows the fan. In real its a bit better as in the picture but hope this gives you a impression?

Yea I guess so. It sure looks sweet and works really well with the case. The lock mechanism is nicely done (altho dont loose the key!) and looks it is personal, the standard panel with window is ofcourse more clear, so only if you fancy the glass you can add it, but I like it a lot

I have been looking forward for this case for 13 months! They sure took their sweet time developing it...

 

I think the GPU is too weak for 2560x1080 and the SSD is too small and entry level for my taste. WIth today's prices, a 500 GB mid-range SSD (2.5") (Crucial MX300should be a good upgrade option, to have storage for all your games, whose loading times will improve significantly.

On the topic on GPU price drops: Stop waiting Both GPUs have been out for over a month, and unlike GTX 1070 1080, competition is present in this performance segment. So no drops are to be expected in my opinion, especially now with lower VRAM versions arriving on the shelves.

 

I prefer Radeon cards, but the RX 480 has GTX 970 / R9 290 / 780 Ti level performance, which is just not future proof at all for modern games on ultra settings at your resolution. It's barely enough for today. So looking at the current market structure, the GTX 1060 8GB would be the perfect card for you. You'll get abt 17 Fps more on average, compared to the 280X.

I'm getting this case on Friday, so expect a post this week-end if everything goes according to plan!

The GPU is indeed on the to-upgrade list but just waiting for the prices to drop a bit here in NL, stock isnt available a lot but maybe your right, time to stop waiting lol  Either RX 480 or 1060 6G version. 

 

SSD: yea thats from ages ago when SSDs were still expensive and I have them from old systems and its also a waste to let it go. What did cross my mind is a M2 SSD of about 250-500GB at some point.

TBH there is not much mATX over that case, it is about as high as my C70 (ATX case)
