Gaming Epidemic!!

Not sure if this fits in networking or gaming, mods please move to your will.

 

So my dad has always had a firewall up. From my investigations, it seems that the firewall blocks keywords, one example is the phrase "kill". Any url with kill, it can also contain kill in it such as "skill", will be blocked. Just recently my dad added the word "league of legends" to the firewall, so now I can't play lol. Is there any way of getting around this? I know I can use a proxy, but I can't afford proxies that are actually fast enough to game on. If not, are there any games you guys would like to recommend as an alternative to lol?

Well I have, he says he doesn't want me to play games, and I should study more (ironically this year in highschool is the year where I've had the least amount of time to play games). So I guess the solution is to study more and get my grades up?

Maybe work out a schedule where you can play games.... being transparent with the amount of studying you have to do, volumes of homework, your grades etc... 

Typically people are reasonable as long as you are reasonable too.   But parents are a strange thing lol

go buy a router, then switch your PC to that router for playing games. Or buy a WIFI card and access open networks

You can do some sweet stuff with SOCKS proxy services. This is more of an advanced way to get around it, and really if you want good throughput/latency, you are going to have to dole out a little cash too, but it is possible.

 

The real answer is to come to some agreement with your Dad, where there are a couple of unrestricted hours, or weekends where you are allowed to game.

If the man is clever enough to pull this stunt, he'll figure out you've bypassed his block.  Probably won't be pretty when he finds that out.  Just talk it over with him.

Yea I don't know specifically what his job is but he went to a hacking convention, so he is pretty tech savvy.
