Need Info A8-7670k for GPU Addition.

Divu Kels

PC Specs:

OS: Windows 10 Anniversary Edition

CPU: A8-7670k (Overclocked to 4.2ghz)

Ram: Ripjaws Z Series 4x4gb 1866mhz

Motherboard: ASUS A88X-Gamer

PSU: Corsair 600w 80+ Bronze

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120v

Storage: 1 R3 120gb SSD, 1 Seagate 1tb HD, 1 Toshiba Laptop HD 500gb...

My question is will the A8-7670k bottleneck a GTX 1060 3gb or a RX 470 4gb.. there pretty equal in price and with out having to upgrade or change my cpu to a Athlon x4 860-880k series processor will my current CPU be to much of a bottleneck on one them two cards? I have considered the RX 480 as well but believe that one being more powerful would be a issue.. I understand my current cpu is an APU and all that its why im wondering before I get one of them two cards. Trying to find my cheapest route to upgrade Graphics from my intergrated graphics which I am using ASUS GPU Boost on Extreme Mode.

Just now, wrathoftheturkey said:

470 being more powerful is an issue? It'll still perform better. BOTTLENECKS ARE NOT ILLEGAL. There'll be a bottleneck with each card, but not much. Bottlenecks don't harm the cards, and the performance increase will be worth it.

No what I ment was the 480 being more powerful then the 470 being an issue. Im just trying to make sure before I go out and spend a couple hundred dollars one of them will pare alright with this cpu other wise im looking at going cheaper on the gpu and grabbing an 880k if worse comes to worse.

Your APU is essentially the X4 860K with graphics. You're overclocked a decent amount already and disabling the iGPU may give you more overclocking there, too. The bottleneck will not really exist. I've been running my CPU as 2 cores 4 threads for over a month at 3.6GHz and no issues. While the 880K is Carrizo and has some improvements over the Kaveri/Godavari, in gaming your CPU cores will do fine.

You can see that here: http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2394-amd-athlon-x4-880k-cpu-review-and-benchmark. Just compare the 880K to the 7870K.

CPU: i7 4770K  |  Corsair H80i  |  ASUS Z87-Pro  |  8GB Corsair 1866Mhz  |  GPU: MSI Gaming X RX 480 8GB  |  Corsair HX  750

Thank you everyone, you have helped my decision alot on this. Almost everyone else I talked to before coming here said it would be to much of a bottleneck... its why I decided to hit the Linustech forums. Im now trying to decide between a RX 480 or the GTX 1060... lol
