My First Build: Y14AN

Andster29

Hello community! I finally got my build together. Some of you might have seen some of my questions, I have taken all you the input and put it into this build. Thank you guys for the helping with this build.

Spec:

CPU: AMD FX-8350

CPU Cooler: Stock (for now)

Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 4Gb

Ram: G. Skill Sniper 16Gb (2 x 8Gb) DDR3-1866

HDD: WD Black 1TB

PSU: Thermaltake Smart M 750W 80 Plus Bronze

Case: Corsair Vengeance C70 Gunmetal Black

Future Mod/ Add-ons

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Glacer 240L

Sleeving: Orange cable sleeving

Orange LED strips

Ducky Shine III keyboard

Logitech 602

Taking Linus' advice, I started my testing outside of the case to make sure everything worked. This actually saved my like 4 hours of work. My first motherboard did not work and had to get it replaced. Note: Asus Sabertooth Motherboards are having a Bios issue at the current moment.

I got the Motherboard I am using now and it worked. I am actually happy with my decision to go with the Crosshair in the end since I got a free year of Kaspersky.

I have been meaning to do an update for a while now so here it is.

post-6761-0-72035100-1387822394_thumb.jp

Not the best cable management, but it works so I am fine with it. I only used one cable tie in the top to hold back the long front panel cables.

Hopefully in the next few months I will get the Cooler Master Glacer 240L and I will be able to start moding my rig.

This is a work in progress at the moment. Updates and continuations will be comeing soon.

If anyone wants to know the reason for the name, just ask in the comments.

The sabertooth mobos need to be flashed to the new bios before you install the 8350, otherwise you brick the board. It was the same issue with the previous revision of the formula z. Did you do the rog connect bios flash anyways?

I just got the same board and processor for my build and i'm loving it! Your build looks like it is gonna be pretty awesome. Are you liking the cvfz/8350 combo?

Oh, I just noticed that you were wanting to get the swiftech h220 water cooler. Be warned that you will need to modify the hold down bracket at the water block, it won't fit because of the giant heatsink to the left of the processor. Also you will only be able to use the ram slots 3 and 4, not 1 and 2. And finally, I haven't looked at that case, but make sure there is plenty of space if you want to go top mount. My rad is pressing on my 8 pin cables, and it is a very tight fit.

I did not flashed the bios at all and the system has not failed yet.

Is it possible to rotate the block 90 degrees so the tubs are coming out of the block vertically? If so that would make the process a lot easier. There is plenty of room in the case. It is the exact same case that Linus used for all the thermal testing.

Oh cool, so you must have recieved the new revision of the board like me. I flashed mine just in case. ;) The rog connect is actually super simple too, and takes like 10 seconds.

The block is a big issue. I tried to rotate the bracket pieces so it would be verticle, but the hose fittings actually get in the way, and prevent you from putting the brackets on that way. Check out my build log Black Sunset, and you'll see what I mean. I ended up using metal snips and cut off a half inch of metal from the bottom left bracket that was in the way of the heatsink. I'm going to smooth it out a bit more and paint over the exposed metal, but it looks pretty clean and invisible to someone not looking for it. When i go to install my new psu on Friday i'll upload more pictures of the modification so you can see it in more detail.

Humm, that is interesting. In all the research I did that never came up.

It doesn't seem to be affecting the 8350 though, so you should be fine.

I got the GTX 760 4gb because I wanted the system to last me a while without having to upgrade it every year.

7970 would have been a whole lot better, you only utilize like 2.5gb of that 4gb (well that's what the 770 version does).
