So if I were to spend, give or take, $1500 on a monitor and and a gpu, what should I purchase?

Obviously a 1080 and a 4k monitor. But which 1080 and which monitor? I am thinking the gigabyte G1 gaming or Asus ROG Strix paired to a PG27AQ or something cheaper would be cool.

Specifically what I would enjoy being educated on would be: Which 1080 cooler is the ‘best’? What 4k monitor is not horrible?

Monitor shopping seems to be extremely difficult...

To be honest, the 1080 is "barely" a 4k GPU (You can't max out the settings and get 60+fps). Have you considered 1440p instead? Or maybe wait and see what the 1080ti or volta/vega have to offer?

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

I have been thinking I will get a 1070, (TN) S2716DG (I observed this monitor at a Micro Center in Houston. The TN panel didn’t look like plague like everyone says TN panels are.) and then some nice speakers for $499.99. All that is about $1500.

I have decided to invest more heavily in my sound, so that will be a separate round of hardware, round 3.

So now I am think I will go for a 1080. I figured I should then go 4k swell, even though I may not max out every game. I can max the shit out of youtube and movies. 4k is desirable in many realms outside of gaming. But in the same breath, I do not want to purchase 2 monitors.

Well an RX480 can run that monitor at 30FPS high/ultra. I would get the higer res version with is ?x1440. I dont know what res it is but look up 21:9 1440p monitors and you should be able to find a nice one.

That is the old version, Acer just announced a new Predator called the XB271HUT which includes eye tracking tech. However you were aiming for 4K and we said ultrawide, you could look at the X34.

I like the idea of 21:9, especially if it was curved, but I feel that the world is not optimized in 21:9. So, it would only be usable sometimes and therefore not worth it. I want it to be worth it though.

21:9 is 100% worth it and 100% supported in basically every game!

Adobe prefers you to use a 21:9 montior for the extra space on the timeline and most games just get more emerisve.

Is there actually a benefit to the eye tracking stuff, or is that just marketing? What about glasses? I wear very large spectacles whenever I am not reading at night.

How can they sell it for the same price? So then the one linked is not out of date or anything, it is the same panel and production process?

Its a gimmick really, not a lot of games use it currently but its new tech that needs to be adopted. They can sell it for the same price because its a refresh of the original product not a completely new model. The 1080 and the Predator wouldn't be worth the price difference imo. If you went 1080 then the X34 is your best bet for gaming.

What do you think of the 4k XB271HK (+$120 to the 271HU) and a gtx1080?

4K on a 1080 doesn't seem worth it imo, as for the ASUS vs the Acer, if you were talking about the PG278Q then you're comparing IPS vs TN and 4ms vs 1ms.

I think I should just go with the 1440p predator and a gtx 1070 and then buy a set of Vanatoo T1’s and couple dozen square feet of acoustic foam and start my offical gaming career and xD and :1 and :D

Thanks for the advice, opinions and education!
