is there really an actual risk of the zotac gtx 1080 amp extreme damaging the pci express slots?

acer4thewin27

Been thinking about getting a 1080 in the coming months so I've just been looking at them online. After seeing what PC Gamer had to say about the AMP Extreme, the review was positive but there was a sense of worry that the weight of the card could damage the pci express slot. to be honest, i find it hard to believe that a manufacturer of a gpu would engineer something to the point that that could happen to everybody's machines. what do you guys think?

Well, first off, never assume that no company would ever mistakenly (or intentionally) damage people's computers...

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

i feel like it would look a little odd. i'm very particular about the looks in my pc. if i had to do some kind of brace or support, i'd probably get some different card.

something else

but, card OP mentioned is 2.3Kg (box included), GigaByte G1 is 1.45Kg (box included), EVGA FTW is 1.92Kg (box included) - this should make him think twice

no offense man. i'm sure it looks great. i was just visualizing if i were to put a brace it would look crummy because i don't have the best creative art like skills.

I'm looking to upgrade from gtx 750ti to a 1060 but don't know exactly which one to get. I don't want anything that would be too flashy in my case (bright colors crazy accents etc).If anyone has any suggestion on brands or specific models it would be greatly appreciated :)

You could brace it, but honestly, if you are already worried you it will just get worse in your mind as time goes on.

My suggestion is to just swap cards. Get something a bit lighter, but out of all the cards I have tested recently most weigh enough to give a bit of sag to them. That's enough for me to say, regardless of what you cards are out currently, they all weigh enough to create an issue with the pci slot.

right now i have a evga 980ti. don't know if there's a huge difference in weight. i know it depends on the card. so far it seems like the zotac 1080 amp extreme is the heaviest and bulkiest of all.

If I were you I would buy the 1080 amp edition. The one that has only 2 fans.

That card is huge already, when it compares to the founders edition one.

1st 2 pics are 1070 amp.

The last one is 1080 amp extreme... 002.png003.png004.png

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

No... sorry, I mean you should buy the 1080 amp edition. The 2 fans 1080 from zotac.

Personally I would not pay that much more for an extra fan. Even though they said it supposed to make your card cooler and run quieter and all that stuff.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
