How much power do i need?

Go to solution Solved by frulica,

VS series are garbage, you don't want to cheap out on the PSU, remember that... Not when spending that much on other components. Think of a PSU like a heart of a live person. It pumps electricity to all other components. Especially if you want to overclock, buy a nice PSU.

If you want to add another GPU, you need 750w.. You don't want to get near your max wattage, best to stay in the middle all the time if it is manageable. I will list you nice PSU's for you to consider that i know are trustworthy and reliable.

EVGA SUPERNOVA G2 is absolute recommendation.
Since EVGA doesn't manufacture its PSU, Super Flower is the name of company that is well known of building one of the best PSU'S around.

Super Flower Leadex GOLD 80+ Same tier and quality PSU as the EVGA SUPERNOVA G2(probably the same components under the hood). Super Flower is aviable in Europe(I'm from Europe).

If you can't get either of those, get the Corsair RMX or RMi series, just dont get the ones with only RM in their name because it is not the same thing, not even close in quality. Those are your options that have reasonable prices in Europe.

I personally would change that MBO for ASUS Z170-Pro gaming since i assume you are building a gaming pc, and that MBO has better audio chip on it(Realtek ALC892 vs ALC1150) not that it matters that much, but still, if you have nice headset you could get some benefit out of it if you don't plan to purchase DAC.

ok,so im building a new pc,gonna get an i7 6700k paired up with   NZXT Kraken X41 ,16 gigs of ddr4 ram,  ASUS Z170-A  montherboard, an EVGA gtx 1070 SC edition thats coming in 2 weeks,240 gigs of ssd,1 tb hdd all put in on

NZXT Source 340 Special Edition which i pretty much fell in love with

i want to future proof it and get another 1070 next year. so my question is,what psu should i buy? and how much wattage i need

thanks in advance

You'll probably be fine with something like a 550 watt psu, but if you want to be safe you probably should go 650 watt. 750 watt is overkill even if you want to overclock but if you want to stay on the super safe side 750 watt will work even when overclocked.

Seasonic tends to be more expensive in Europe than most other manufacturers, that's why i recommended him those.. There is no possible way that he can get same quality Seasonic as Super Flower Leadex Gold for the same price in his Country.

850w is also a nice option, because if you overclock everything, you must know that CPU, and GPU's are pulling way more than their TDP. I don't think that you will ever need more than 750w, even for SLI since technology is getting more and more power efficient(unless you consider buying an AMD card, because their TDP is always way higher, no matter what). I would personally get 750, but you may choose otherwise.

Thanks to the magic of google translate, I was able to find a few fairly good Seasonic units on the romanian site. There's this 550W for 260 RON and this 620W for 300 RON. If you want better quality and 80+Gold, then there is also a 650W unit by Super Flower (400RON).

Edit: Oh, and there are several lower end (but still really good) Super Flower units, for cheaper than the EVGA.

The lack of EVGA is kinda bizarre, there doesn't seem to be any graphics cards from them either.

The EVGA G2 series is the same as the Leadex Gold (The exception of the G2 550 which has upgraded secondary capacitors, to fix the Leadex Gold 550W's hold-up time after power loss issue, but it is still based on the Leadex Gold).

750W is nice for dual GPUs, but not required.

Moreover, the power supply is doing much more than just pumping electricity as the outlet is already doing that. It needs to also ensure the current getting pumped is DC, and that the voltages are within spec on the respective rails per the specifications.

The power supply is so important to computers(and I'm glad you take that concept seriously), and people really need to stop cheaping out on it. The power supply in a computer is comparable in one sense to good tires on a car in a slippery setting - they're both extremely important.
