Should I upgrade coolers?

striker477

Currently I'm running a I5 6600k clocked at 4.2GHz with a Cooler Master TX3 cpu cooler

Would I receive a reasonable performance increase by changing the cpu cooler to justify the price of a new cooler, now that i'm looking at a new case and am not as restricted by size?

looking more budget end $50 is about the tops i would consider spending.

Here are a few coolers I've been looking at.

Cooler Master 212 evo

Cryorig M9i

Cryorig H7

Any more suggestions are welcome. Looking at doing a black and white theme so anything that fits would be an additional plus :D

You don't see really any difference in temps unless you go up to a nhd15 or something else along those lines.

What are your temps now?  Assuming you are not near throttling then those coolers will not change things significantly.

The M9i performs very similar and the 212 Evo/H7 are a step up in performance. They're not worth upgrading to if you already have a TX3. You should be looking at 'better than 212 Evo' tier coolers or better like the Kotetsu or NH-U12S.

The FUMA is good: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/dVwqqs/scythe-cpu-cooler-scfm1000

Idle is around 35, stress testing gets to around 80.

My experience is limited but my gut says the only cooling solution that would offer the likelihood of significant performance boost would be 280 sized water or air coolers of similar performance (big Noctuas, etc.)

So, sounds like it's probably not worth changing out my current cooler.

Thanks for the help.

Not with that price range. You are better saving for some beefier cooler for maybe $70-80 range.
