Recently I have been looking for a cheaper mechanical keyboard and I found this.  I was wondering if it was any good.  If it isn't could you recommend something else?  Thanks

https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/wiki/buying_guide <<< I'd read through this, just to get an idea of what switches/brands you might prefer.

Off the top of my head, I'd recommend spending at least 50 dollars. If you aren't comfortable going that high, you may actually get better reliability and typing experience from a high-end rubber dome.

Nope nope nope nope, if it's a "real" mech switch (like not a rubber dome hybrid) then I don't know how long it would last but it will definitely be a better typing experience :P

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

I tend to disagree, but that may just be our sample size. I've tried quite a few rubber domes because of where I work (Campus IT), and while I like my WASD Cherry Brown, I also really like some of the microsoft ergonomic boards. The issue of expirience is no contest at the switch level. But on the board level it can get dicey.

At the price range (~$30) it isn't a great idea to get a mech for many reasons, longevity being just one of them. Cheaper boards have poor quality control on keycaps (warped spacebars are really common if you buy cheap PBT) and will use metal stabilizing bars instead of "dummy switches" on large modifier keys. Off-brand switches also tend to lack a consistent feel which is really uncomfortable to touch type on.

My point being that I reccomend saving up longer and putting more money into a good Mech. If you absolutely need something to type on, get a membrane because they are cheap, consistent, nigh-indestructible electronics that are nice backups if you ever bork the good keyboard and don't feel up to soldering a switch.

P.S. "rubber dome hybrid"? Are you a topre hater?

That's not a mechanical keyboard but rather, actually, a "mem-chanical" keyboard, similar to the Cooler Master Devastator 2. It might be fine for someone that never used a mechanical one but anyone that ever used a mechanical keyboard will know right away it's a membrane keyboard.

If you never tried a mechanical keyboard, I would suggest you drop to your local PC store that has demos you can try.

Agreed I have a microsoft ergonomic sculpt keyboard and it is great. Even a $20 logitech keyboard mouse combo is pretty good. Heck those both beat the mushy mx silents I tried with the strafe rgb keyboard.
