Would the Asus Thunderbolt 3 pcie adaptor fit in non-Asus MBs?

Hi all

I am trying to figure out if the Asus ThunderboltEX3 would be compatible with my Asrock fatailty z170 mitx MB. The specs suggest no, but its just a PCIe right? What could go wrong/what is the hurdle??

If not, could someone be so kind to suggest other thunderbolt pcie adaptors?

Thanks
