I7 6700k vs i7 6800k

Hi guys, should I pay extra for an I7 6800k if I am going to do hardly any productivity work, but want to be sure my CPU is future proof for a GPU upgrade in 3 years?

Stick with the 6700k

Desktop: i7-6700K / Asus Z170 S / H100i V2 / LPX 2400Mhz 16GB / 960 EVO 250GB / 2x 860 EVO 500GB / RM750i  / NZXT H440 / XB271H + Z22n Monitors

Laptop: Thinkpad T450s / i7-5600U / 12GB / 860 EVO 500GB

The 6700K is already fine for a GPU upgrade in 3 years. People are still rocking 2600K, and that's a five year old chip which still does just fine.

6700k is even good for light and casual content creation and so on. Should work for a couple years.

You can't make any real predictions about where the market will be in 3 years time. AMD could release an 8c/16t Zen and it combined with Intels much reduced in price 6 and 8 cores could dominate the high end and become the expected gaming machine for a GPU that in 3 years time we might reasonably expect to be 2-3x the performance of todays cards. There is no such thing as future proofing, it'll be obsolete the moment you buy it so instead of focussing on a 3 year hypothetical worry about what you need now and anticipate an upgrade cycle over time.
