is the 6700 a bottleneck for the 1080?

Beder
Go to solution Solved by N1ghtwraith,

I don't think that the 6700 would actually bottleneck the GTX 1080 that you are having but of course it also depends on what games would you play , but most likely it wouldn't bottleneck and you could probably spend your money on a SSD and even liquid cool your PC , but the 6700K would actually be much more future-proof then the 6700 of course , even in the long term if you are planning to sell the 6700K in the future you would also fetch a better price , it basically depends on your preferences .

so i wanted to upgrade my pc mainly for gaming and somewhat video editing.

i upgraded from an i5 2400 with amd radeon r9 280 non x to

intel core i7 6700 non k

and gtx 1080 founders edition

64gb of ram

4 ssd's 2 of 500gb and 2 of 1tb

and a 700w psu

but is it a bottle neck for my 1080? if it is then its better if i upgrade for an 6700k? or should i wait for the lga 1151 7700k?

if i do upgrade for an k then witch liquid cooler do you guys recommend for overclocking...

It wouldn't bottleneck a lot, but overclocked i7 6700k will be much better than 6700 non-k.

Please till me you didn't buy all that RAM since 64GB is pure overkill for gaming and a little of editing. And no, I don't think the i7 6700 will cause any issues for the 1080.

Nah, it has 8 threads... People are saying that an overclocked 6600K bottlenecks the 1080, because of its lack of threads...
