Hi all,

Ive built a new PC and I installed the power supply wired up the motherboard and CPU power and fans etc etc. Now the power switch LEDs work but when I try to turn it on the CPU fan springs to life and then stops spinning, but my exhaust fan does nothing, opinions?

I am assuming the build does not post? Does your motherboard offer any kind of post codes? if it doesnt, try playing around with the ram, one stick at a time, different dimms, reseat it, etc.

Agree with @PCGuy_5960, if we get your specs, preferably in a pcpartpicker list we might have more of an idea what we're dealing with hardware wise. It also might help if you can take a picture or 2 of your PC internals so we can see if it's wired correctly.

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.

Do you have the monitor plugged into a graphics card of sorts? Also, are all the connectors plugged in properly and firmly? Could be a short circuit somewhere.

Apologies, I'm new to the site here's a few snaps. It would be note worthy that I don't have a GPU yet, just want to make sure it works before I get one.

It's really hard to damage a pin on AMD CPUs...

Intel has them on the socket and they are very small and delicate

AMD has them on the CPU and they are pretty difficult to break, you will have to drop the CPU in order to get bent pins...

Kinda.... Without a speaker or a diagnostic display, you pretty much can't see what's going on...

My best bet though, is that because the 860K doesn't have an iGPU, you need a dGPU, aka video card in order for the PC to boot... I think this is the issue

Even if you did, you wouldn't have damaged it... The pins on AMD CPUs are big and sturdy

Ok, I'm not sure, but I think that you may have plugged a PSU cable into the sys fan socket?  it's hard to see with the cables like that, but that's what it looks like to me.

Seriously?? not even goign to look at what I said above ^^^

Those wires don't look like fan header wires to me at all, too thick... and although the pictures aren't great, that doesn't look like a fan plug going into sys fan 1.... check it out before you ruin your system bud.

Well I plugged in a molex connector from the power supply to my case fan which had an adapter to a 4 pin header on the mobo so I plugged that in to there. I'll take it out though
