They're called partitions. Having more than one is very important since having only one partition (just C drive) will erase everything when you reinstall Windows. That or you would have to copy your files over to another place every time. A common practice is having only programs in C and all other data like pictures, movies, games, music etc on D drive.

My first computer back in the days had only one and had to wipe everything on reinstall. When I learned about this, I facepalmed hard and separated my drive to C and D.

it keeps operating system and files from each other and allows you to move the c partition and still have all your files untouched on the d partition.

So that's the point of separating to two drives, just in case you have to reinstall Windows, you don't need to touch your D drive's file right?

more or less but it also helps keep everything organised and safe, bit like a kitchen draw tidy, you don't need one but it keeps all ur knives, spoons, forks etc safe, separate and easy to find ;)

Well since I'm using SSD, I never make 2 partitions on same HDD/SSD.

But before that I made 2 partitions: One was for windows and programs, and another one was for multimedia such as movies, music, pictures, back up, games, XXX, and so on xD

It doesn't realy matter if you create more than one partition it just something we are used to do :)
