Hello guys! I'm from Argentina, and I want to solve a question that it is in my mind...

Is Haswell still worth it? I mean, i am going to buy a New Haswell Pc, but how long will it be useful? 4/5 years maybe? Less?

My build will be:

Intel I7 4790k

Cryorig C7

Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2/USB 3.1

Nvidia GTX 650 (it is overclocked, and it run all new games)

RAM 8Gb 1866/1600

1tb HDD

Now, will it be useful or I will be changing Again my Pc in 3 years?

That's all

Ps: forgive me if I didn't write somethings well, I am from Argentina

Yes, Haswell is still relevant, and for all intents and purposes will be relevant just as long as Skylake is relevant.

Your 650 will be a SEVERE bottleneck though. What are your specs now and how much would a Skylake system cost relative to a HAswell system?

Do you need an i7? If the 650 powers all the games you play you'd be golden with a 4460. The CPU will last 4+ years but that GPU is in need of an upgrading. How much more is a 6700K compared to the 4790K?

I have two rigs, one with a 4770k (built in 2013) and a 4790k (built in 2014) and they can handle pretty much anything I throw at them and are in spitting distance compared to Skylake. So unless Intel/AMD comes with a cpu that offers at LEAST a 50% improvement in all my tasks (streaming, recording, editing, coding etc) it's holding up just fine. I doubt you will be needing an upgrade for the next 5 years at least.

That 650 would be your first real bottleneck for the near future though.

A 650 is only going to do 1080p low settings, in 3 years it will not hold up to new games.

My Pc now is

Intel core 2 dúo e7200

A Gigabyte motherboard (not sure what model is it)

4 gb of ram ddr2

GTX 650 overclocked to 4gb gddr5 (can run GTA V, Battefield 4, call of duty, need for speed most wanted, etc)

I mean, I am really sure that I will change the GPU but now, I really need a better CPU and RAM. Here in argentina, and i7 4790k is near 450 dollars (USA) and in United States, is 300. My friend will go there and bring me that CPU and RAM, but I already have the motherboard, si that's why I will go for Haswell

I will buy and I7, for the next reason:

1) Here the CPU's are more expensive than in USA, so if I am going to buy q CPU, I will buy a good one so that, I won't need to spend the double amount of money on that.

2) In the future, I will buy a GPU, and then I will have a really good Pc and play any game without any worry on my components.

You should make your own thread for future reference, but no, don't buy a new motherboard or CPU. For all intents and purposes, a 4770k is just as good as a 6700k for gaming.

It will be fine Haswell is still great, but you should consider a RX 470 or 480 if not the 1060 6GB, but for the love of cookies AVOID THE 3GB 1060! ;) (the 3GB model has less cuda cores which makes it really a 1050 or it makes the real 1060 a 1060Ti...)

Haswell it just as good as skylake practically. The I7-4770K 4790K (Haswell) are almost just as powerful as the I7-6700K (Skylake). One small advantage is you get DDR4 RAM tho.

that one cracked me up :P you havn't played Deus Ex Mankind divided or Quantum break just yet have you?! o.O lol

Everything else looks good though, the 4790K is a very strong CPU and will last you a while, but you'll want a new GPU to go along, i would recommend a GTX 1060 6GB.

in 3 years from now, all the rest of the machine will still be up to the task, the 4790K in 3 years from now will still offer decent enough performance compared to the new stuff that will come out i'm sure...you'll probably want to have 16GB of RAM though.
