YouTube don't give a fuck about fair use. If anything, they will take down the video and you will have to appeal it claiming fair use and they might put it back up.

(YouTube has an automatic system that sees what music is being used)

Hmm... AFAIK if you really want fair use you'd best be critiquing or parodying the work. Using it as background music for your video is not fair use. Maybe if you use a 10 second segment of the song or shorter it's ok. But it's unlikely companies are really going to get at your throat for a small video with no ads. In that case probably what will happen at most is your video is muted.

Appealing a claim rarely works. And even if you don't get a claim right away, you might get one 3 years after the video is uploaded. Happened to me several times.

It's best to use royalty-free music if you don't want any trouble. Like the music from http://incompetech.com/.

Royalty free music would be the best bet, that way youtube won't try taking down the video.

If you monetize the video, you will almost certainly get hit by a copyright claim.

Most of the time, I only get my monetization removed. The only time I ever got a video removed due to copyright was because of disney. I find that appealing a copyright claim works the majority of the time, at least with disney. I have a community strike on my channel right now, appealing those don't work very well because it is handled directly by youtube.
I would say at the very worst, your video will be monetized by another company, or simply taken down, you won't get a copyright strike.

Yeah, but it wont be a copyright strike, it will 99.9% of the time be a monetisation claim

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Which is what I meant. I purposely put claim and not strike.

That is not fair use since you have no right to use the song, and the work is in no way transformative

Really if you want to use music, royalty free is the way to go unless you have specific permission from the artist
