no, first off all I3s are locked now and the motherboard wont support overlocking even if you get an unlocked CPU

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

many Z170's can be BIOS flashed to allow non-K overclocking.

AFAIK only the ASrock Hyper 'H' chipset boards have sky OC - otherwise you need a 'Z' chipset - either way its a fairly rough way to overlcock.

Sim Rig:  Valve Index - Acer XV273KP - 5950x - GTX 2080ti - B550 Master - 32 GB ddr4 @ 3800c14 - DG-85 - HX1200 - 360mm AIO

They always were... but that never prevented some Z170 boards to OC them anyway.

Regardless, in OP's case, it's not possible. The mobo won't allow that.

You do realize that, to this date (and for pretty much all of eternity, unless intel changes the SKU design) they can still be OCed, don't you?

They forced mobo manufacturers to pull the BIOS down, but they are still available out there. Even if you have a newer version, you can still easily downgrade. Or change the microcode (if your mobo is fancy and has such feature).

Not that I recommend doing it, though, too many downsides. Still, let's get our facts straight rather than distorting things for convenience.
